Lieberman Cites War Support In Pitch For Oklahoma Votes (Gets Boos)
Candidate Also Speaks Out Against Gay Marriage

POSTED: 10:14 p.m. CDT August 12, 2003
UPDATED: 11:36 p.m. CDT August 12, 2003

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Aiming his rhetoric at the American heartland, Sen. Joe Lieberman said Tuesday that his support for the war in Iraq and his opposition to gay marriage make him the best Democrat to pry Oklahoma's voters away from President Bush.

It's been 40 years since a Democrat won this state, and its new prominence in the primaries brought six of the party's nine candidates to Oklahoma State University.

Lieberman strived to separate himself from the others, despite occasional boos from the youthful crowd that numbered nearly 6,000.

On Iraq, the Connecticut senator said some of his opponents "run the risk of sending a message that they don't know a just war when they see one."

That drew boos, as did his opposition to same-sex marriages. In response, Lieberman suggested that that his moderation would play well off-campus.

"These Oklahomans and people all over America should vote for me because I am an independent-minded Democrat," he said. "I am the one Democrat who can take Bush on where he's supposed to be strong -- security and mainstream values."

That would better position him to take on Bush's "right-wing agenda," Lieberman said.

Lieberman said his traditional values would make him stand out as the other candidates moved left. "To not be willing to speak from the core of mainstream values and occasionally mention God's name as a source of inspiration for our country, that's a mistake," he said.

LIEBERMAN IS CHIDING THE OTHER CANDIDATES FOR NOT BRINGING GOD INTO THE RACE!

:WTF:
Why do politicians have to invoke God? And chastise others for not doing the same? That's just wrong.

by supporting him 100%.

The only thing that Holy Joe should be asking when he invokes gods name is to forgive him for being such an out-of touch moran.

How many times has he been booed at democartic gatherings?

7. Lieberman to 'vital center': Boo not my astonishing independence!
"These Oklahomans and people all over America should vote for me because I am an independent-minded Democrat," he said.

Well, admittedly, he's right about the independent-minded part--most of the Democratic Party no longer holds the values of 17th century Salem.

(Coincidentally, Dolstein, if you're reading this, I've answered your challenge in the other thread about locating even one pro-Lieberman GOP group. Do enjoy.)

9. Just sent that @$$hole an email.
"You are a complicitous traitor and an utter disgrace.

You support an UNJUST war. You are therefore enabling the Bush administration's lies.

You sicken me. And I'm not the only one. Maybe you should just admit you're Bush's lackey, Mr. Republican-Lite.

You should be ashamed of yourself."

I stand by what I say. His not being vice-president is the only silver lining in the 2000 theft.

27. LIEberman illustrates all that is wrong
with DLC Democrats and the Democratic party today. He is basically saying I am just like Bush so if you like him then you will like me. Well in a taste test between Bush and New Bush (a la Coke and "New" Coke) I think people will always go with the original. :puke: :puke: :puke:

C'mon Democrats....work that spine and STAND FOR SOMETHING. Be courageous and articulate an ALTERNATIVE to that thief in the White House.

Running as Republican lite is why Dems no longer control the House of Rep or the Senate. PEOPLE WANT AN ALTERNATIVE.

Why do so many stay home on election day? Because of people like LIEberman and Jean Carnahan who run as Repub lite.

Dems need to be Dems. Be an OPPOSTION party. There should be hearings going on right now to impeach that thief in the White House but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Dems don't want to alienate freakin' "suburban" voters. Screw the "suburban" voter, at least here in St Louis, they don't vote Dem anyway and never will.

End of rant.

After last night, I am still firmly in Kucinich's camp and would LOVE to see Braun as his running mate. She was terrific, too!

37. When is this nimrod going to get a clue?
You would think that any sentient creature with any sensory apparatus whatsoever would conclude that being booed off stage every where he goes was a sign that insulting his audience was probably not the best way to win a nomination, yet he just goes blithely on. All I can say is thank God: he's digging his own grave faster than any of his detractors could dig it for him - may it end being up so deep a hole that he and his ilk will never be able to crawl out of it and into the light of day again!

And got their asses handed to them.

No, its time to be aggressive. Use a sledgehammer even during times when a ball peen would suffice. Take the attack to the repugs on every avenue.

I'm sick of passive Dems (Daschle, Gephardt, Liberman, etc.) who are afraid to take the Bush Crime Family to task. If Harry Truman were alive today, the current state of the Democratic party would sicken him.

As Malone said in "The Untouchables" I want the Chicago Way, which means if the repugs bring a knife, the Dems bring a gun.

46. Joe Lieberman's speech only makes sense if
we realize that he has no intention of winning the Democratic nomination, and in fact, wants Bush to win so that the PNAC agenda of continued occupation of Iraq and further wars in the Middle East take place. The end game for Joe is the security of Israel which he believes can only be guaranteed by the presenece of the US in the Middle East. This is why he keeps referring to the war in Iraq as a just war without spelling out why he thinks so.I have just done that.

He is a trojan horse, a phony democrat who dares criticize rel democrats like Governor Dean.

Let us kick this impostor out of our party.
