Pentagon Official hints at base closings

WASHINGTON, June 23 (UPI) -- Pentagon officials assured a House panel Wednesday information culled from a study of the U.S. global force posture will soon be sent to Congress.

Defense Undersecretary for Policy Douglas Feith told the House Armed Services Committee preliminary data from the Pentagon's long-term study of use of U.S. military forces worldwide will be made available next month for lawmakers and provide needed information for the ongoing effort to close military bases and reshaping the military's presence around the world.

Feith refused to provide information during the open session about the relocation of soldiers from bases in Europe and Asia, an expected part of the process.

However, he indicated the process of moving troops from German, Japan, and South Korea to bases in Eastern Europe will roll out over years, while domestic base closure information will be released in several weeks.

1. The arrogance of these assholes is just making me crazy. Like we're
too damn stupid not to know where a lot of these soldiers will end up.

And the ones that don't end up cannon fodder for the bush* & Company's endless war scenario will end up sitting on the Russian border. That will make Putin and his crowd really happy. Azerbaijan (sp?) for example.

But whatever, Feith is taking a lot for granted, most notably that they'll have the next few years to move these people around. I don't think so.

2. They have to close bases here to build the 14 new ones in Iraq.
I wonder what the effect will be on "homeland Security" Didn't 9-11 show us the need to have bases close to prime potential targets? Or do we have to recognize the fact that the administration does not care about the safety of Americans.
