Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 02:43 AM by Pachamama
Just broke on CNN...well orchestrated attacks on 3 police stations in three cities...apparentely also attacked some other sites (Electricity/Power Station etc.) and some other "key targets"...

Atleast 14 dead so far, including 2 US Soldiers...

Looks like the fireworks are starting in preparation for the "Handover"...

Multiple attacks rock Iraqi cities
Iraq's PM shrugs off death threats

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/06/24/iraq.main/index.html

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Insurgents have staged simultaneous attacks on police stations across Iraq, killing at least a dozen Iraqi officers and two U.S. soldiers.

Many casualties have also been reported in the wave of attacks which struck police stations in Baqubah, Mosul and Ramadi on Thursday morning, but that figure is expected to rise dramatically.

A multiple rocket-propelled grenade attack hit the central police station in Ramadi, killing seven police officers and a member of the Iraqi Civil Defense Corps, Iraq's new army.

Twelve police were wounded along with three ICDC members, according to a local journalist.

/Quoting the onion........

What is this, the new Tet Offensive of the 21st century? Very telling that the initial reports are that the attacks were very well coordinated. We need to get our troops out of there... This "war" has been bullshit from the get go.

//On edit, I'm watching it on CNN as well. Was watching RR jr on Larry King.

2. US' Fallujah raids are like the torture. It's for reassurance.
It's for morale. Israel does the same thing for civilian and political morale, as well as military. It's all about showing the Arabs who's boss.

How do you combat that strategy? You attack the enemy's morale. How do you do that? A Tet offensive is not a bad way to do it, timed right before the handover, and targeting the weak link. The more the US relies on native Iraqi forces, the more these far inferior forces are juicier political targets - with not one thing done to make them safer from attack, besides, if you think it matters, the raids, the torture, and the general intimidation.

That's why handovers tend to fail.

3. "nana-na-nah, nana-na-nah, hey, hey ..."
Goodbye.

It's over. The "war" in Iraq is lost. The Iraqi resistance is unified, organized and motivated. We learned nothing from Vietnam.

Rebels Launch Attacks in Four Iraq Cities, 23 Dead
By Alistair Lyon

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Rebels launched coordinated assaults on Iraqi police that turned several mainly Sunni Muslim cities into battle zones Thursday and at least 23 people were killed, including three U.S. soldiers.

The simultaneous violence in Baquba, Falluja, Ramadi and Mosul intensified a bloody campaign by Iraqi insurgents and foreign militants to sabotage the formal handover from U.S.-led occupation to an interim government in six days' time.

In Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, at least four car bombs exploded near police buildings, sending thick smoke into the air and setting cars ablaze. Police said there had been heavy casualties, but had no details.

Three more blasts shook the city later, and local television ordered residents to stay at home. Police blocked off all major roads, and announced a dusk-to-dawn curfew.
