More US ships and planes heading their way to Asia
REUTERS , WASHINGTON

The US plans to put "substantially" more ships and warplanes in Asia and the Pacific, even as it pulls troops out of South Korea, a top Pentagon official told Congress on Wednesday.

The build-up of armaments is part of the broadest repositioning of US forces worldwide since the end of the Korean War more than 50 years ago.

In Asia, the moves are intended to boost the US' ability to meet commitments on the Korean Peninsula and elsewhere in the region, despite any permanent cut of troop numbers on the ground, Douglas Feith, under secretary of defense for policy, told the House Armed Services Committee.

The last time I lived in Guam it was really becoming a nice peaceful island because the military had all but packed up and left. Really nice coral, clean water, beautiful clear sunrise/sets...

Too bad!

1. If I were in South Korea I might be getting nervous.
Troops down, firepower up. Hmmm.

2. God, I never believe anything they say, anywhere, anytime
I'm immediately wondering if these repositionings aren't (also?) intended for the next phase of Global Domination.

I truly hate being this cynical -- but Lily Tomlin had it right: No matter how cynical I get, I can't keep up.

5. Well, it's because you're right
As for the Tomlin quote, it's like Tom Lehrer's reply when asked why he no longer performed: "Political satire became obsolete when Henry Kissinger was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize."

I just never know what they are up to. I recall RumsFool's words, "we can fight multiple wars on several fronts". Of course, the old fool is proud of the fact that he can multi-task, even at his advanced age (72); despite the fact that we're UNDERMANNED in Iraq and we've pulled spare troops wherever we can find them....Germany, South Korea, Afghanistan....

Bush's begging for extra NATO troops went unheeded. Why, 2 weeks ago RumsFailed even had the gall to show up in Bangladesh to beg for people. They told him 'no' and showed him the door.

So while Rumsfeld believes he can rule the World, reality has an ugly way of cutting his dreams short. Short of people, and eventually short of money, Don the Dumb.

It's not necessarily true that wisdom increases with age.

6. Isn't Guam the furthest things West which we stole and still rule? I'd
bet, 95%, that we have some really dirty stuff going on on Saipan, Rota and/or Tinian. Something that you could get rid of easily or hide and pretend it never happened. Such as torture chambers.

7. Notice that this is Doug Feith's testimony. He's one of the most
evil and sinister members of PNAC, and a solid, dual-loyalty neonazicon. The man is a monster, as are his brethren, Perle, Wolfowitz, Libby, Abrams, et al. They must be stopped before they destroy our nation, and the world.

9. And N. Korea said today that it WILL perform nuclear tests as planned
...can't find the story right now, and only saw the headline. But I think that's what it said.

11. Mobility

Mobility is the key...
no more bases with "locked down" soldiers anymore...

Quick intervention forces all around the globe is the new flavor.

I found the whole fleet surge deployment a bit odd...and now I understand that the Pacific fleet is sruging too..what's going on?

straight form the Navy's mouth:

http://www.cffc.navy.mil/summerpulse04.htm

The near-simultaneous deployment of seven carrier strike groups provides the Navy and the joint combatant commanders an opportunity to exercise the FRP while maintaining the ability to respond to crises around the globe, enhance regional security and relationships, meet combatant commander requirements including forward presence, and demonstrate a commitment to allies and coalition partners. Summer Pulse '04 is scheduled to conclude in August.

snip-----

and exactly WHAT crises would that happen to be? hmmmmm :tinfoilhat:
