Poll: 54 Percent Say Iraq War a Mistake

WASHINGTON (AP) - For the first time, a majority of Americans say they think the United States made a mistake sending troops to Iraq, according to a poll released Thursday.

The CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll found that 54 percent of people say the war was a mistake, up from 41 percent who felt that way in early June.

The poll also found that more than half say the Iraq war has made the United States less safe from terrorism. Only a third said it made this country safer.

The finding that more than half now think the Iraq war was a mistake recalls the disillusionment of Americans in 1968 with the Vietnam War. The first time a majority said that was a mistake was in August 1968.

(Not to be too elitist, folks, a coup fourre is a fencing term where you use your enemy's attack against him and turn the tables instantly; mon vieux is my friend--literally "my old", because The Madge and I have yakked on this board for years now...)

With instant ugliness, it's time to take back the House and drive a stake into the place where the heart should be in the Republican beast. Vulnerable Republican congresspeople should be tarred as "outsourcers" or "torturers" or "liars", whichever makes them more exposed in their particular district. Like the unswervatives, only one or two issues should be hit, and they should be hit repeatedly. Tar them with the taint of supporting mass-murdering, world-dominating thugs and brutalize them. With the House, we can expose lie after lie after crime after evil of these thugs and rub their noses in it. We can't just focus on Junior and lose the real battle.
