We'd use notwithstanding clause: Tory MP
Charter used as a 'crutch to carry forward all of the issues that social libertarians want,' he says
With just three days left in the most hotly contested election campaign in a generation, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper is once again being forced to play down controversial comments by one of his own.
This time it's MP Randy White who has waded into dangerous political waters, suggesting a Tory government would redefine the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and use the notwithstanding clause to overrule court rulings it doesn't agree with.
For a Conservative government already battling perceptions of intolerance and locked in a tight race with the Liberals, the timing couldn't have been much worse.

You wouldn't believe the garbage that is starting to come out in the last few days.

1. It's starting to crumble.
They cut it fine but they just couldn't hold it 'til Monday.

2. That's what I've been waiting for
The Conservatives just stuck their foot in it bigtime and with perfect timing. This will make the Friday night news and carry through into the weekend.

I was at a training session last night for election day activities (scrutineering and whatnot). They had to move it out into the parking lot because there were 200 people there. People are stoked for this election.

3. I don't know much about Canadian politics
but this Steven Harper guy give me the creeps. I have been following this on The National, and he seems to be cut out of the same piece of material our wingers are - real plastic type guy, almost looks like he has been created in a laboratory....yuck

4. Created in a laboratory... bwahahahaha....
That's perfect--he looks like one of the early and unsuccessful experiments!!! "Geez, I dunno... the eyes came out awfully close together and that hair--not good. Kind of a creepy expression, too. I'd junk this one and try again."

7. I know it is irrelevant, but that head of hair of his seems like a rug
Or a combover. I don't think I have ever seen a photo of him where his hair was swept back, showing a hairline. If it is a rug, it is well done, blended in nicely with the real stuff. If it isn't, he should ease off the hair spray a little. It looks like he could walk through an Alberta tornado without upsetting the coif.

5. I certainly hope this costs the Conservatives dearly

it may not, Randy White is a notorious kook. He has said much, much worse over the years. but it does show THIS IS YOUR CONSERVATIVE PARTY, CANADA

you get what you vote for

I am so utterly disgusted that the Conservatives have gotten as close as they have. it is either one of the biggest cons of the century (yeah, we are really moderate, snicker, snicker), or my country is about to dissapoint me.

6. By the way, they're not Tories.
Tories are royalists by definition.
