8. It's too late...
We are stuck in Iraq until they create a secular democracy. I don't like it but it is now the Moral obligation of the United States to finish this Job. If we fail we get the Taliban with Oil Money. Granted Bush & Co. are incompetent to do the Job, we need to elect somebody who knows what the Job ahead of them is and to take it seriously.

Maybe the Parents should have started a group back in January. I heard there were a few Marches back then.

9. There were LOTS of marches back then
but shrub didn't give a rats ass about the voice of the people, and went in anyway. Being the impulsive and petulant little boy emperor that he is.

10. The moral obligation of the U.S.
could just as easily be satisfied by turning *everything* including the oil wells and lucrative, no-bid, rebuilding contracts over to the UN.

The parents back in January were probably giving the idiot-in-thief the benefit of the doubt and as such have demonstrated a patriotism above and beyond what was expected of them. Since they have discovered Bush's multiple lies, which led to their children put in harm's way to wage pre-emptive war for profit, they are more than entitled to call him on it.

A few marches back in January? How about *millions* who were ignored marching against this illegal and unethical war for oil?

11. the problem with your statement
Edited on Wed Aug-13-03 07:42 PM by RainDog
the problem with saying "it's too late" is a failure to acknowledge that Rumsfeld and his gang have failed the troops, Iraq, and the American people by the way he began and by the way he continues to run his war machine.

Rumsfeld should be forced to resign immediately because he failed to commit enough troops for an invasion. He boasted he was going to run the war like a CEO. Apparentlly his model is either failed biz man Dubya or shyster Ken Lay.

Either way, the failure to commit enough troops, and to ignore Gen. Shinseki's advice about the amount of troops and the amount of time needed is disgraceful at the very least, and continues to expose our soldiers and Iraqi citizens to unnecessary violence and death.

The level of looting could have been decreased with enough troops. The guerilla fighting could have been much better contained, and therefore would have been less effective in mobilizing the population against the troops with an adequate number of troops deployed.

Supplies are inadequate. Simply things like enough water to drink, not to mention wash.

Privatized contracts for supplies have created "no shows" for our troops in just those very basic needs...another Rumsfeld/Bush initiative.

Meanwhile, Halliburton gets a no-bid payoff in the gazillions, while Bush "supports the troops" by cutting vet benefits.

This is not the way to "install democracy."

And do you really think these fascist asses want to create democracy in Iraq? They thought they could install Chalabi to be their puppet.

They were so wrong about so many things, are multiple wrongs supposed to make a right..or make a democracy in Iraq?

I don't think so.

Bush and his gang don't want representation by factions in that country while the American equivalent (fundamentalists) are constantly pandered to.

How many Iraqis have to die before American recognizes that these men who took power in 2000 are not simply incompetent, but they are a danger to our troops, our citizens, and people around the world.

America is looking at years and years of occupation. This is equivalent to Vietnam. We were in Vietnam for 13 years, and we left without achieving our goals.

How many hundreds of thousands of Americans and Vietnamese died for the idea that "we have to stay?"

Vietnam gave us Nixon and another attempt to install and imperial presidency. Was it worth it for America to "stay there till we got the job done?"

I realize our govt won't leave now because of the fear that we would look weak. How many Americans will die because of the incompetence of those who got us into this mess, and how many will die because Americans support an occupation, even though this invasion was a violation of the Nuremberg principles which our nation helped to write?

Maybe this nation needs a reality check.

Maybe real politick means we need to get rid of these idiots and obsessive ideologues and ask for Nato and UN support to repair the damage we have done.

Maybe we need to quit insisting that we control the way that Iraqi oil profits are distributed, to diminish the payoffs of this invasion for Bush's crony war profiteers.

I cannot support any action which this administration does, militarily, because they have proven they are inept, at best, and criminal, in fact.

12. until they create a secular democracy
What if until is forever.

In that case we are there until we quit throwing
money down a rat hole filled with war profiteers.

Or until the blood of the innocent, our's and
their's leaves a stain that lies and wishful
denial can not hide from the willfully
ignorant.

13. It's the standard operating procedure...
The GOP f*cks up and the Dems clean up.
See the work of FDR & WJC.

But to say "Bring the Troops Home Now" is flat out irresponsible.

It's too late to talk about what we would have done differently, we have to face reality. We are going to have to committ more money, more troops and more time. If it's 20 years then it's twenty years. If it's 100 years then it's 100 years. If Iraq becomes the 51st state then Iraq is the 51st state. To allow the Unites State to install a thug that will be "our" thug will be a failure on every American.

I'm going to steal a quote from Reagan, "There's got to be a pony in here somewhere." We've got a lot of work to do. It's time we start pushing for them to do right. It's a tough f*cking job we have to do, the Republicans will shirk, we've got to carry the load.

Please note, the "few marches" in January was sarcasm.

14. Then they should re-instate the draft
and bump all the sons and daughters of the ones that voted for this "war" to the top of the list. If it's going to take 100 years.

16. we have to face reality
I assume you are enlisting and requesting duty
in Iraq if you have not already done so?

This version of duty you are advocating sounds
a lot like white mans burden to me.

One need only look at the art produced over the
last five thousand years in Iraq to see they are
qualified to sort out their own state.

I have know idea what the Reagan quote is intended
to say in this context.

But I say "Bring the Troops Home Now" turn the
remaining cash over to a UN fund for reconstruction
and pull out.

15. I think "Bring them Home" is a good platform to get their opinions heard.
The group won't be labeled by party affiliation, even though one of the reporters at the conference tried to label them as liberals. They firmly said their membership includes a broad range of individuals across the political spectrum.
