Haig was a major source for Final Days, Woodward & Bernstein's follow up to All the President's Men, but he wasn't enough of a player in the early CREEP days to know all Deep Throat knew. The most likely suspect is Fred Fielding.

You've provided the first factual info I've ever heard as to why Haig doesn't fit -- early on anyhow.

According to the U of Ill website:

"It's all in the files," Throat said on Oct. 9, 1972. "Justice and the Bureau know about it, even though it wasn't followed up."

But Haig didn't become Chief of Staff until May of 1973. Before that he was Kissinger's right arm.

Looks like that U of Illinois project did a hell of a job!
