Protesters 'drive' Bush from Ireland: CNNI

<snip>
CLARECASTLE, Ireland (Reuters) -- Irish protesters used Shakespeare to blitz George W. Bush on Saturday, invoking Macbeth, a ghost and a witch to cast a spell on the U.S. president and drive him, symbolically at least, from Irish soil.

<snip>
When they were stopped at a police road block, they staged their own version of Shakespeare's bloody Scottish tragedy.

First, a ghost with a whited-out face read the names of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq. Then a woman dressed as Lady Macbeth read a list of Iraqi victims.

Finally, a woman dressed as a witch with a black pointy hat and a flowing cape cast a spell on a man wearing a Bush face mask. The man crumpled to the floor as the witch ordered him to leave Ireland and end the occupation of Iraq.

13. CNN does suck...
big time in fact. CNN International is news as opposed to CNN being infotainment under the guise as news.

5. EU-US summit disrupted by protests
The EU-US summit is drawing to a close but the protests in Co Clare are just gaining momentum.

Ambush, a protest against the Bush administration in Iraq and his war policies, has gathered outside the 'Peace Camp' at the N18 is making its way to Shannon Airport.
<snip>

A press conference due to begin at 1.40pm was delayed as buses carrying about 300 journalists were unable to get past the traffic and protestors.

President Bush was due to leave directly after the press conference, but his flight from Shannon will now also be delayed.

7. United States, EU Support NATO Role In Iraq
<snip>
About 5,000 protesters traveled by bus Saturday from all over Ireland and marched to barbed wire barricades set up a few miles from the castle. No arrests were reported.

"George Bush, No. 1 terrorist," chanted the crowd. One group of demonstrators held a white coffin to symbolize Iraqi civilians killed in the war.

About 4,000 police officers and 2,000 soldiers -- more than one-third of the security forces in the Irish Republic -- were deployed to protect Bush. Weekend protests were expected in several European cities.

8. Protesters greet Bush in Ireland
ENNIS, Ireland - Amid antiwar protests, President Bush arrived in Ireland late yesterday for four days of U.S.-European diplomacy as NATO allies neared agreement on a mission to help train Iraqi security forces.

Thousands of demonstrators turned out in the nearby town of Shannon, in the capital of Dublin, and elsewhere around the country to protest Bush's visit and the increasingly bloody war in Iraq. Meanwhile, the U.S. treatment of prisoners there and at the U.S. Naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, drew fresh criticism.

Bush responded that the critics "don't really understand America." He defended the war that toppled former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and has left about 850 American soldiers dead and more than 5,200 others wounded.
<snip>

Shortly before Bush arrived Friday, EU external affairs commissioner Christopher Patten accused the U.S. administration of "hair splitting" over the application of the Geneva Conventions protecting prisoners of war. Patten also warned that continuing violence threatens to send Iraq "flying apart in the next few months."

Ireland has had it's own home grown terrorists for years, now they are protesting someone they perceive as a terrorist.I guess they know one when they see one.

16. I think you are referring to Northern Ireland
where the Catholics were an oppressed minority.

I think many of the KKK members in the U.S. had ancestors from Protestant northern Ireland and the parts of Scotland that were nearby.

Interesting comment. Now, I could spend a few minutes on that, but instead I'll focus on the protesters. Notice the witch cast a spell on George, and invoked Macbeth.

Does anyone else remember the LBN thread about the people in Indonesia (I think) who also cast a spell on George and Dick, and sealed their "souls" in a jar, and threw it in the river where it sank to the bottom. The idea here was that their souls would be "imprisoned" and their warfare would be contained.

While some might think this is a quaint idea, I'm beginning to wonder. Just a thought......about having the majority of the world against you....

How many countries are on the **** list these days? Everywhere he goes, governments must have thousands of police to protect him, not to mention those from here who go along with him. This didn't happen with Clinton.
