'Fahrenheit 9/11' Tops $8M in First Day
By DAVID GERMAIN, AP Movie Writer

LOS ANGELES - "Fahrenheit 9/11," Michael Moore's assault on President Bush (news - web sites), took in $8.2 million to $8.4 million in its first day, positioning it as the weekend's No. 1 film, its distributors said Saturday.

Based on Friday's numbers, "Fahrenheit 9/11" was on track for an opening weekend that would surpass the $21.6 million total gross of Moore's "Bowling for Columbine," his 2002 film that earned him an Academy Award for best documentary.

"Bowling for Columbine" holds the record for highest domestic gross among documentaries, excluding concert films and movies made for huge-screen IMAX theaters.

in my fanny pack with the intention to take some pics of the lines and inside the theater and I chickened out! I'm such a coward!

I was one of the first, saw the morning show in San Jose, CA.

Here's my review without giving away the movie: (about 20 posts down)

though to be fair, he used Bush's own fist to do it.

On edit: Your point is well made.

16. iirc the legal definition of assault is
the threat of a battery, at least in this state. Did he hold up a fist to *? Point a stick at him?

8. Imagine a double feature of "F-911" w/ "A Quiet American"!
no one in their right mind would EVER vote for the Republicun party again.
"F-911" was utterly fantastic. Moore never went "over the top" emotion or information-wise. Just when you started to get that "I can't take this emotional level anymore" feeling it switched to something else wherein you could catch your breath. I laughed, cried and cheered. It is a masterpiece.

13. A couple (hundred) times at the drive in as a teenager back in the sixties
Near the front of the screen with the playground just below, shit faced off my ass with all the rest of the high school buddies as we go round and round on the merry go round, I clutching that bottle of brew for just the correct time when * shows his mug on the screen and the correct rotation enables me to toss that bottle careening to spread across this movie going experience. Just one scenario in the thought process to give * the much needed one finger salute.

I am much less civilized now, I just post random fantasies across the INTERNET because Al Gore invented it.

Btw I have heard part of the sound track of "A Quiet American" movie, is it as good as it sounds?

10. So encouraging!
I'm so glad to see the public coming out in full force across this nation to support Fahrenheit 9/11. I know much buzz has been generated, and that in itself will stir curiosity, but I'm feeling optimistic that more Americans are just getting hungry for an unslanted account of what is really happening in their backyards, and around the world in their name. This kind of media storm will only encourage the much-needed change that is on the horizon.

Many people in this country just don't know where, or how, to find alternative sources of the news, and M.M. helps bring it right to their doorsteps. We are living in a defining year for this country, and have the power to change its course. I believe this film will prod many fence-sitters into holding BushCo. responsible for this country's current ills, and convince them that a change in leadership is not only a good idea, but essential.

liberalhistorian - I think it's great you are taking your son to see this film. Kids his age will be voting in the not-too-distant future, and their ideas/views, gleaned from media sources other than FOX, will help keep this country moving in the right direction.

Way to go Michael Moore!!

I overheard the theater usher tell a patron they had to make a last minute move to a bigger theater. The bigger theater wasn't quite full but damn near.

14. Don't forget this isn't a Stanley Cup game. The cashiers do tell customers
"we're almost sold out the seating is NOT good, you might not be able to sit together" before the ticket is sold. This is fact, at least in my personal experiences. So many people wait for the next show, choose another movie, or go home. I was is a Friday morning show in San Jose with about 30 empty seats out of 900. I'm guessing 30 seat per row and 30 rows.
