Reagan aide slams neo-con policies
Reagan aide slams neo-con policies

By Hannah K. Strange
UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL

Washington, DC, Jun. 25 (UPI) -- The Iraq war has demonstrated the limits of American power, not the capabilities, according Stefan Halper, a policy aide under Ronald Reagan's presidency. This is "what people around the world see," said Halper, and "that's a very frightening development."

Halper, who served under Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Reagan in the White House and State Department, made the comments at the New America Foundation, a bipartisan think tank that hosted the presentation of his book, "America Alone: The Neo-Conservatives and the Global Order" in Washington Wednesday.

He described the policies of the neo-conservatives as not reflecting "the best course for the country or for the Republican Party." Along with co-author Jonathan Clarke, a research fellow at the Cato Institute and former career diplomat in the British Diplomatic Service, Halper advanced the view that the United States should return to working multilaterally with allies and to a more realistic approach to international diplomacy.

No one would disagree, he said, with the "forward strategy" of advancing democracy and opposing tyranny. However, Clarke added, "bringing about democracy is something which has got to be handled with a great deal more subtlety than the neo-conservatives seem to be capable of."

Yes you have to put a more cheerful "optimistic" face on it and have a leader that can "communicate" the diversions well.
Bush-lite didn't help this country , but at least they see the need to revert to it.

3. No one would ever accuse the neocons of being subtle, that's for sure.
Hee Hee, I really have to laugh at this one. Rove & bush* and the rest of these clowns thought they'd get a boost from Reagan's death, and democrats were afraid they were too. This is just such delicious irony. The death of the Republican American Idol has just been a kick in the pants for little Georgie.

How funny.

4. How wonderful is this ?
Just an observation that probably a year ago, the term Neo-Con would have garnered puzzled expressions and a response like "Oh wasn't that the guy from The Matrix?" from 95% of the public ... but now their cover is blown to the point that they're readily identifiable and less able to scurry back under their rocks ?

One of the best ways to kill a Vampire is to expose it to the light.

I am so pleased !!!

5. How Sweet it is
Dick is showing he's a d*** , and it's all unraveling in a most delicious way , yes the correct word to describe the mouth watering satisfaction of seeing them all go down . Overreach , and you risk getting ripped apart. This is a mercy killing, for us all.

6. There's a difference between Reagan and a neocon?
More revisionism amongst Republicans.

In my club, we have a member who a year ago packed our club with friends of hers to win our endorsement of a particular candidate. This year, someone else did the same thing for a different candidate, one the first packer opposed. You guessed it, the second packer is the devil, and the first one misses no opportunity to point this out, even though they both did the same things.

Reagan was a racist, a deficit spender, and a big supporter of terrorism. He killed untold thousands through his central American secret wars. He kept that region of the world in poverty as it was trying and threatening to recover. ANYONE from the Reagan era trying to draw a distinction with the Bush era is simply trying to pretend they didn't do what they did do.

I'm not so eager to see Bush gone that I'll embrace Reagan's legacy. If we do, twenty years from now we'll be embracing the W legacy, in the same way.

10. He did more than sleep
The central American stuff was Reagan all the way. Bush may have done a lot of the leg work (though as incompetent as he is, I suspect that HW's role in the world is tremendously exagerated), but Reagan approved of it, and approved it. He wasn't the brain-dead patsy people are trying to make him. He was an evil racist bastard in his own right.

13. Abandon Ship, Abandon Ship
Yep, the rats are a scurrying tonight boys and girls. The real trick imho is to "necklace", metaphoricly of course, as many of the Senate and House Rethugs with the truth of this failed Mayberry attempt to conquer the world as possible. George and dicks' (btw fuck you Dickweed) coattails are going to be really long this fall. Trouble for the thugs those coattails are fullspeeed ahead over the cliff.

Hopefully enough of us will see that the entire New Right agenda is and has been nothing but an elaborate Ponzi scheme from the beginning..
