Pentagon project brings fear of new arms race

American military scientists are developing a weapon which kills by delivering an enormous burst of high-energy gamma rays, it is claimed today.

The bomb, which produces little fallout, blurs the distinction between conventional and nuclear weapons, and experts have already warned it could spark a new arms race. The science behind the gamma ray bomb is still in its infancy, and technical problems mean it could be decades before the devices are developed. But the Pentagon is taking the project seriously...

4. Is this Tesla's "Death Ray"?

Saw something on the history or maybe it was sci-fi, or some damn cable channel about Tesla's bombastic weapon.

Apparently, if I remember correctly, it actually was built back in the first half of the 1900's...but taken apart. It acted like a big laser...if anything crossed it...it would be demolished. Apparently, you could set it up in the sky and put parameters on the laser range...anything that flies into the range would be anhilated.

Anyhow, who knows if this report was true or not...but Tesla was a proven scientist...so yeah...who knows.

Anyhow, it wouldn't shock me if GW has his hands on such a device...the man is crazy.

7. When I read stuff like this

I tend to get very depressed and to think the best thing that could happen to earth would be for a comet or asteroid to slam into us right now and kill off humanity (like the dinosaurs). Hopefully in another 100 million years or so some half decent life form will have developed which doesn't devote some of its best minds and a huge chunk of scarce resources on figuring out more effective ways to maim and kill each other.

Dear God/Goddess, your experiment is showing increasing signs of being an abject failure. Looks like it's time to scrap the current model and start over.

a weapon, that if deployed, would create an arms stance of us against the world. And even our allies will be there out of fear. As far as being able to tell other nations to disarm, forget about it.

This sort of idiocy cannot be allowed to go forward. It represents a depth of depravity hitherto unknown in American military policy, not even Hiroshima will be as bad in its long term consequences as this, because it will be seen as usable. Like Vx, napalm, agent orange, DepU, and custer bombs, all rolled into one. This is a weapon that will move warfare to the italian renaissance model of assasination.

If this gets invented, the technology will escape, and no one in their right mind would want to be 100' or closer to the president ever again.
Seriously, there will never be a public debate or tour in a presidential campaign again. And as a weapon of terror, there are few equals. What amazing stupidity this represents.
