Bush Doesn't Let Blackout Upset Lunch With Troops

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 14 — President Bush was having lunch with troops at the Miramar Marine Corps Air Station when Joe Hagin, his deputy chief of staff, told him of the massive blackout on the East Coast.

But unlike the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, when news of another New York catastrophe sent Mr. Bush on an odyssey on Air Force One, today he continued his lunch and went ahead with plans to attend a $1 million political fund-raiser here this evening. Still, he spent the rest of the afternoon on the phone trying to sort out the damage and the cause of the power failure with his top national security aides.

By late afternoon California time, White House officials said the president had determined that terrorism had most likely not caused the blackout. So after more than four and a half hours of White House silence, Mr. Bush made what was intended to be a reassuring statement to a small group of reporters at the Grand Hyatt hotel here.

"One thing I think I can say for certain is that this was not a terrorist act," Mr. Bush said. -

9. T-rats are worse than MRE's
absolutely awful stuff. I don't know who prepares them, but they cook the life out of them before vacuum-sealing them in the trays. I'd take an MRE any day.

2. Just like he wouldn't be disturbed during WTC inferno?
He is 100% responsible and deserves impeachment
and life imprisonment!

He is a traitor to this country and beholden only to his
greed for money and power!

3. Send * and his gang to Alcatraz
re-open the upper level just for them. It's got a good view of San Francisco.
They can watch us celebrate their downfall.
We'll have such a :smoke:PARTY:party::smoke::beer::smoke::smoke::party: when that happens!

Keep "the rock" open to the public like it is now
so we can keep an eye on those bastards.
They're much worse than any of those gangsters they used to put there.

...it wasn't terrorists. Good, now the media, the Congress, and the country's investigative agencies know what to report. They anxiously await the rest of the script.

11. Honestly, it was very frightening.
They had him in front of the cameras without a podium and no prepared (or preprepared) lines, and he could not put words together enough to make a sentence.

It was pathetic in the pitiable sense. I would have thought that they pulled a drunk guy out of a party and, unbeknownst to him, put him on television and started asking questions. But the Chimp claims that he no longer drinks.

12. Which troops? republican gaurds?
I never found out if these guys had been to Iraq and returned or not. Surely they wouldn't let that moron close to a regular foot soldier that was dealt shit for the past year.

What a guy! Bet the troops just love their prez, 'eh?

Intelligence hasn't got anything right yet, so I'msure they don't have this one right either.

15. Beg pardon?
But unlike the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, when news of another New York catastrophe sent Mr. Bush on an odyssey on Air Force One, today he continued his lunch and went ahead with plans to attend a $1 million political fund-raiser here this evening.

Bush continued reading to schoolchildren on 9/11, THEN went on the lam, I mean, his odyssey. Showing an edited tape of a news conference so he could go on his fundrasier was equally inappropriate.

16. Used all the code words
I respect the troops and all, but his speech to them was pure BS. We are still at war. I thought we had accomplished the mission. Bad guys, evil regimes, we will hunt them down and kill them. Then for the Pres. and his blackout speech. It looked like he got dragged behind a truck. It must be pretzel logic. No terrorists involved. Is this a first? This all just adds to the list of unexplained happenings since the 2000 election fiasco.

I am so glad his fundraisers were not disrupted by our little mess! We New Yorkers have long memories - glad NYT printed this!
