Fresno council member wrote of using 'dirty bomb' to kill liberals
http://www.fresnobee.com/local/story/7291741p-8216890c.html

Fresno residents and community leaders, outraged by an e-mail message in which City Council Member Jerry Duncan wished he had a "dirty bomb" to kill every liberal in Fresno, called Thursday for his resignation, recall or reprimand.

Sorry if it's a dupe, but I didn't see any other story that looked like it. And I can't use the search function - yet ;)

I would be worried about 'ol Jerry if his name was Ahmed and had made some remark about a dirty bomb. But he's just a "regular" person; so I don't think he'll dissapear into custody anytime soon.

5. very revealing
this attitude of hatred is a shame for America. Why do they insist it's "patriotic" to hate and suppress your fellow citizens? How can they be this way and still call themselves Christians? I never cease to be amazed at the basic lack of understanding and compassion in this crowd. They surely must be mentally ill.

are the nes fanning this hatred. "Liberals" are to blame for everything, "liberals" are not "real Americans" why not go the whole way and claim "liberals" are "subhuman" (if they haven't made that leap already). Its very disturbing and revealing of the thought processes of many on the right. They are Fascists, plain and simple.

66. Birds of a feather.
The fascists and the repukes put property (like slaveholding) first. So, anyone who talks about progress is a threat to their way of life because it costs money to feed, educate, house and help the downtrodden. The rich Reich knows this and pays top dollar for its toads and stooges throughout the media.

This bozo was actually on one of the Top Ten Conservative Idiots list at DU a couple months ago for firing Dr. Kapoor from the Human Rights Commission for his anti-war activities. Considering Dr. Kapoor is one of the founders of Peace Fresno AND is a highly respected professor who teaches Peace and Conflict Resolution classes at Fresno State (among other things), this was nothing more than a personal jihad. Unfortunately, he's in a very conservative district and his constituents just love this guy. Go figure.

Prosecute the rich white guy? Not gonna happen.

63. Remember, not all Fresno is like that
and you can't let a few, outspoken crazies be the representatives of this city. For every Jerry Duncan there is a Cynthia Sterling (both on the Fresno City Council -- one a whacko and the other an incredibly hard-working, community-minded representative). There is WONDERFUL work going on here, though it gets less publicity. Local Democrats are walking precincts signing people up to vote, providing people applications for permanent absentee ballot status and campaigning against the recall. Our local Dean groups (3 of them) are arranging to donate food and work the Poverello House during Thanksgiving. There's Peace Fresno, a great organization -- just so many positive things happening all the time. Of course, we're saturated with all the Rush wannabes 24/7 so very little of this information gets out to the general public.

Calling this "Freeper City" negates all the hard work LOTS of people do here all year, every year. I've found that an excellent way of combatting negative perceptions and feelings of helplessness is to get involved. We need every person we can get on the "battle lines" right now. If you're interested in volunteering, please PM me and I will be happy to give you a LONG list of things you can be involved in.

76. oh come on
who cares what 5 whackos do? Its NOT as if they own the town with their whacky ways and diminished numbers. Duncan, on the other hand has joined their little bandwagon of demented megaphone abusing cowardly haters in protest of peace protesters and support of warfare based on lies. The whackiest megaphone abuser and certified lunatic had a snit and accused Duncan of being a nudist, for what thats worth.
Im starting to love "Freeper City" as you call it. Theres only a half dozen of them (where you gonna find that sorta inbreeding anyway? Mighty rare I hope) and they look pretty damn ridiculous when 1500+ anti-war marchers walk by. Now all this hilarity! Oh my God, if they could do this on TV theyd be HUGE! Their physical footprint, however is completely imaginary and only exists if you say it does, and someone believes you. They are pathetic, miniscule, ludicrous, inept and basically mentally unfit way past simply stupid. Just pretend they have clown outfits and makeup on and you can smile at them.
BUT DONT LET DUNCAN GET AWAY WITH THIS THREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

13. Duncan's standard non-apology apology
Duncan issued a statement: "The e-mail was not intended for public consumption. It was nothing more than a flippant comment. ... For anyone who may have read this two-month-old e-mail, who was not part of this private conversation and somehow misunderstood or was offended by the comments, I apologize."

The gist is that if you're offended it's your own fault, and for that Duncan's sorry. It may be a futile effort to pry this lunatic off the Fresno City Council, but Fresno for sure won't get rid of him without doing a little work to make it happen.

Recall Jerry Duncan!

Edited on Fri Aug-15-03 03:50 PM by 0rganism
I think Mr. Duncan may be in need of a civics primer.

on edit:

'When Duncan was asked whether the commission's public criticism was motivated by politics, he said: "Absolutely. ... The response I have gotten from the public on this has been 100% supportive." '

Perhaps Mr. Duncan's supporters are also in need of a civics lesson.

16. 1969 or so - Fresno voluntarily bussed
I went to junior high school there and it had been named an All American City. Whoever the mayor was at the time felt as an All American City, we should lead the way on race relations. We had other programs before where white and black schools would do day exchange programs and we'd visit each other's schools. That led to an actual bussing program, I know my school was involved, I have no idea which other schools were involved. It certainly wasn't popular with everybody, but I don't recall any real riots over it like they had in the south and the east. It was stopped by the courts or the governor or something like that. Still, how does a city go from that to killing liberals?

57. They were still bussing in the 80's
Then they set up magnet schools and kids were bussed all over town to go to the magnet school of thier choice. Duncan is a magnet for trade type of work, Roosevelt is the performing arts, Edison is for computer and science things. There is also a program thru CSU Fresno for the honors type student where they attend classes at the university. Not so much bussing for intergration anymore.

58. My e-mail To This Thug
For What It's Worth.....

Mr. Duncan,

Although not a resident of California, I was absolutely disgusted and apalled by the report I read the today in the Fresno Bee about the e-mail you wrote which contained the following quote.....

"If I had one dirty bomb and I could eliminate all the liberals in Fresno at once."

And when confronted about this completely low-brow, psychotic, and thoroughly half-witted comment, your response was this......

The e-mail was not intended for public consumption. It was nothing more than a flippant comment. ... For anyone who may have read this two-month-old e-mail, who was not part of this private conversation and somehow misunderstood or was offended by the comments, I apologize."

My goodness Jerry, have you been stealing Michael Savage's scripts? Although it was a pretty lame attempt at an apology, it doesn't take much of an intellect to interpret what you really meant by that statement.

Here let me translate it for you.....

"I meant every single thing I said in that e-mail. I regret that my true feelings about what I would like to do to certain members of our community became public, but since the cat is now out of the bag, it's too bad that that some people got offended by it"

So the fact is Jerry, you aren't a bit sorry about the comment you made, you are sorry that it became public and that people found out about it.

Flippant comment? Misunderstanding?

What is there to misunderstand? It is obvious by such a statement that you have a deep-seeded hatred for people that disagree with you politicaly and ideologicaly, and the only thing you are REALLY sorry about is that things like that which you sated in that e-mail aren't legal and available for you to carry out without consequences.

And my sentiments go exactly for your collegue who condoned police opening fire on UNARMED, DEFENSELESS protestors.

I never thought I would see a day in America when the political and ideological divisions would drive people who serve in PUBLIC SERVICE, who are suposed to be LEADERS and SET AN EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS to hate to such a degree as to adcvocate KILLING the very citizens the were elected to SERVE.

You sir, not only need to resign, you need to seek help.

The last time I checked, Mr. Duncan, we live in a DEMOCRACY, where open political debate and the freedom to disagree with one an other is not against the law. Neither is Freedom of Assembly.

However, Mass Murder is against the law, and so are threats to that end. The sentiments and desires you stated in that "flippant" comment of yours are as well.

I believe we call that TERRORISM.

So you hate the liberals that live in your city. So you wouldn't mind seeing them dead, and you don't mind expressing that openly to co-workers, and you are dissapointed that there isn't a way for you to do it legally without consequence.

That's all fine and good Jerry, but someone with issues like you is not fit for, and does not need to be to be in Public Service and Government.

You weren't sorry about that statement you made, you are sorry it was made public, and the fact that you don't even have the courage to answer for your actions, and instead release a pathetic public rebuttal that amounts to "I'm sorry I got caught and you were offended by it" makes you a THUG and a COWARD.

And as for your laughable statement about the 100% Public Support you have received....

All I can say it must be a bitch of a commute to when you live on a different planet than your place of work.

Do the city of Fresno a favor, you schoolyard punk.

RESIGN.

I would imgine you don't like my sentiments very much, but hey, what are you going to do Jerry....

KILL ME?

Tom and I go back - we had legal offices in the same building and did some work together. We became pretty good friends and I have lots of good memories of Tom... I really should contact him and ask him wtf is going on and even see him when I go to Fresno in a few months.

And I do remember Fresno as an all american city, albeit at that time I was a very young girl awakening politically as a result of the Vietnam war and all the hell it brought to our lives. I didn't attend school in Fresno then (my dad was transfered to the peninsula) but I know it was not a pleasant time to be growing up in Fresno.

Where did you go to school?

42. Please do
I went to alot of schools in Fresno actually, but mostly Baird, Kratt, and Tenaya Jr. High. We moved out to Sanger after that. My sisters both went to Bullard High though. Tenaya was part of the bussing program and it's when I met one of the sweetest girlfriends I've ever had and something like that really can make an impression on isolated white kids. But we weren't really that isolated anyway, my neighborhood had Mexicans, Japanese, African-American, Catholic, Mormon, 7th Day Adventist, and we even had a gay man living next door. All in suburban Fresno in 1969!!! It just breaks my heart that we went from having leadership that was trying to move forward, even though there were some protests, to dirty bombs and capping liberals. Makes me sick.

he was a sheriff for 13 years, he knows how to use one...we are ultra liberal compared to where we live....and I think the meanness will get worse as more lies about the BFEE come out...

45. Hate to say it
my husband did. Can't say 'we' because it's probably not something I would have chosen to do. But when I got a creepy religious 'we must serve Bush' letter a while back, I was kind of glad 'we' had it.

Very strange times. ;(

46. Armed Liberals
Not an oxymoron. I grew up in the 50's. When I was a teen, I was a bird hunter. I even joined the NRA so I could target shoot competively (had a modified M1). That was when I was 18. I have never owned a gun since then, UNTIL NOW. Recently bought myself an AK-47 (don't trust handguns, too easy to f**k up with those). Why you ask? To protect myself from all of those othe assholes that have AK-47s. And really, I am a mellow guy, just practical.

50. Remember that waitress that reported those middle eastern medical students
They were driving to start medical school in Florida, and they stopped at the wrong Georgia restaurant and a waitress named Irene or something like that called the FBI when they supposedly made some joke like this.

I never really blamed Mildred, or whatever her name was, it was right after Sept. 11 and "watch what you say" was in the air, and she seemed pretty remorseful as I recall.

But, I also remember a lot of whores going on about how necessary it was that she turn them in, she was practically a hero, that's what we all should have done, etc. etc. And that those students should even be prosecuted for whatever they did to cause Mabel to turn them in.

I wonder what those whores would say about this case?

71. Remember The Barmaid Who Reported The Bush Twins
That poor woman was threatened and harassessed just for doing her job and reporting under age drinking.

Just because the lawbreakers were Junior's brats... the unthinking, reptilian rightwingers made the barmaid's life
miserable.

Then there was Coulter's comment at a speech, attended by several members of Junior's Admin:

"When contemplating college liberals, you really regret once again that John Walker is not getting the death penalty. We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed too. Otherwise they will turn out to be outright traitors."

51. Bring 'em on
I do believe the weakness of the far left is the appearance we are unarmed and helpless. Understand that many liberals are afraid of guns or weapons. Maybe for those who have never been around them they are something to be feared, but I believe and I may be wrong, the day will come when the rightwing if not deterred will see the far-left liberal as something to eliminate one way or another.

Liberals can learn to appreciate firearms and can learn to handle them safely. Some weapons are inherently safe just by design. For instance revolvers and double barrel shotguns with exposed hammers are what I consider very safe and easy to use.

You don't have to be an NRAer to be weaponized. Many many people are gun owners and users and don't belong to NRA. I used to many years ago before it became a politicized right-wing organization. But if the left were known as gun-owners it wouldn't be long before the NRA would be wooing us for membership, then of course they would have to change their policy of right-wing BS and moderate the organization to what is was at one time. Just a place for hunters and shooters to get information on guns and shooting, not politics.

I may be wrong!!!

Let's see. What's on my agenda for Tuesday night? Ah, nothing (unusual). I think maybe we need to get a contigent down to City Hall with signs and press. Ah yes, this can be done.

Anybody in/around the Fresno area is welcome to PM me if you're interested in being involved. Meanwhile, I'll be making lots of phone calls today to try and get this going.

56. Let us not forget the political environment here in Fresno
I live here, I have my Dean for president sticker on my car and I get laughed at for it. Fresno if you look is the P.O. Box address of FreeRepublic. This Jerry Duncan earlier in the year attack the head of a Human/Civil rights commision here in town. I don't remember exactly what his name or job title was. Jerry Duncan is a pig who has the same thought process of Coulter, but he is on a city council. Jerry Duncan lives in an area of California that is strong republican. Do you think he feels safe in his ways of being? He does. This is twice in one year that he has done this sort of thing and each time he gets bolder and more repulsive. Will anything happen? No, if it does I bet he goes down as a martyr in the eyes of the republicans here. I have seen fences painted with such slogans as "If this war is right or wrong, it does not matter, God Bless George Bush" They are driven by ideology, not morals. It is difficult to be a liberal in this part of the world.

59. My e-mail to This Thug
Edited on Sat Aug-16-03 03:45 AM by TheWatcher

KILL ME?

On edit: Sorry about the double post

61. Letters to the editor
Send it to the Fresno Bee. That will at least shoot down his comment of 100% support. I don't support the jerk one bit and I don't agree with any of the comment. Since he is not the council member for my area, I guess I don't count in his poll of 100%.

Take any piece of Nazi propaganda from the 1930's, substitute the word "Liberal" for "Jew" and see if you can't see the promoters of this criminal Fraudministration using it.

And we all know what happenned there after the propaganda wasn't enough. How long before threats of "dirty bombs" and the like become more than threats?? :scared:

70. exactly right
we have a fellow loon here in town on the limbot AM channel who has repeatedly pleaded FOR another 9-11 attack on the US so the anti-war leaning Americans can get their minds changed. Hows that for Republican patriotism? This joker Bill Manders and Jerry Duncan are two of a kind, and it is critically important that we all speak out against this serious domestic terrorism TODAY! Another Tim McVeigh is on the way, with this kind of encouragement from the mentally ill leadership. FIGHT BACK NOW!!!!!!
