Election officials stand behind voting machines
http://www.sunspot.net/news/local/bal-machines0815,0,7622816.story?coll=bal-home-headlines

Maryland election officials gave a vote of confidence today to an electronic voting system that a recent report said has serious flaws that would increase the likelihood of fraud in future elections.

"We in the election community ... really, honestly believe that report is based on a misunderstanding of the way elections are conducted, said Linda Lamone, state elections law administrator.

Lamone appeared at a panel discussion at the Maryland Association of Counties' summer conference on pending changes in the way state and local boards will conduct future elections.

1. *Eternal scream*
They speak as though they would be able to tell- right there on the spot- if the machine wasn't "working".

4. It's not that you can't conduct a fair election with the machines
It's that it's way too easy to conduct an unfair one.

The criterion isn't whether things can go right, it's how much trouble you're in when they go wrong.

3. Election officials stand behind voting machines?
I guess it's as good a place as any to hide.

5. Hitler stand behind result of 1934 German plebescite
"It doesn't matter what those liberal Jewish traitors say about fixed elections, I am confident that I will be vindicated."

:puke: :puke: :puke:

And get the Allegheny County official who said they did a recount that was accurate to the vote.

Jesus, did I just get transported to the Soviet Union?

ANSWER: YES!

How was that recount performed? Did he check paper ballots? Are there any to check?

Of course not. He ran the program again. Not surprisingly, it said that the computer program was exactly accurate.

God Save America, because it's just about dead now.

6. The obvious question that is NEVER asked
Is how do they know there was no tampering or fraud? They keep harping on the claim that the elections where it has been used had no problems, but without a confession there would be no way to know about abuse and THAT IS THE POINT.

It makes me crazy.

8. When election officials can explain the inner working of ....
both hardware and software then I would respect their views on these systems.

Now, they might as well be saying that they have confidence that the world is flat.

10. Heard Rep. Jim McDermott say on
C-Span that he'd like to go back to the paper ballot. I can see no reason why the votes couldn't be tallied at each precinct once the polls closed.

Until we the voters loudly reject blackbox voting, we'll never see another honest election.
