Bush taps GOP lawyer for federal judgeship in NJ
CAMDEN, N.J (AP)

President Bush on Friday nominated a longtime lawyer for the state Republican Party to be the next federal judge in Camden.

Peter G. Sheridan of Princeton Junction, a member of former Gov. Thomas H. Kean's staff, will fill the vacancy in U.S. District Court in Camden if confirmed by the Senate. -

A Seton Hall Law School graduate, Sheridan has represented state Republicans for a decade, and last year sought to prevent a late ballot substitution for former Democratic Sen. Robert G. Torricelli. Sen. Frank Lautenberg eventually took Torricelli's place on the ballot.

Some state lawyers expressed disappointment that the nominee is not from South Jersey. -

1. If He Was On Tom Kean's Staff ......
...chances are he's a moderate Republican.

Princeton Junction is in the central part of the state - not far from Trenton. It's closer to South Jersey than many of the GOP strongholds in the northern part of the state, such as Morris Township (where I grew up).

2. Lautenberg must not like him
I doubt Lautenberg will try to put a hold on the nomination though.

If he did work for Tom Kean I would think that he is probably okay. Kean was a pretty good guy.

I didn't know there was a district court in Camden. Is this new? I just thought there was one district court for New Jersey, and that is in Newark.

5. Hatch is ignoring the "Holds"
How else can we explain Carolyn Kuhl getting a vote in committee and heading to the floor even though she was not supported by either California senators Feinstein or Boxer.

The Hold is a joke now that Hatch is in charge - unless it's a democrat in the white house making the nominations

4. So KEAN Is O.K.?
All this time I've been worrying he was picked to head the Cover-Up, uh, "investigation".
