Hoon: Kelly death will end career
A man is dead and this scum is worried about his career?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3157477.stm

Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon has reportedly told colleagues he expects his ministerial career to be over following the death of government weapons expert Dr David Kelly.

Mr Hoon telephoned colleagues last week to tell them he anticipated he would have to "fall on his sword" over the affair, according to the Sunday Telegraph.

Last week it emerged at the inquiry into the scientist's death that Mr Hoon had over-ruled his most senior civil servant to order Dr Kelly to appear before MPs investigating the Iraq weapons row.

Ministry of Defence permanent secretary Kevin Tebbit had recommended Dr Kelly not to appear before the Commons foreign affairs committee.

2. Can he take Blair and Dumbo with him?
I guess it would be too much to ask him to take along the entire Republican Congressional delegation as well.

4. maybe
Maybe, pw, but if you read the article in the Guardian it tells how Hoon was eithet the last or one of the last to speak with Kelly. He was ruthless in his interrogations and undoubtedly added much stress to Kelly's life. It makes me sick. Kelly was a hero, doing the right thing, and these people harrassed him to the point where he felt he could not go on.

It should also be noted that Blair personally ordered another inquiry to flesh out the details in the Guardian stories and Kelly's role. It may have been that one last inquiry that put him over the edge, if you buy the suicide scenario, that is.

7. Oh come one, Blair may have screwed up big time
but he is no Bush. He will not be Prime Minister for much longer, and he may deserve it because of his misjudgement in trusting Bush and being so stubborn, but he has been pretty good Prime Minister--at least several 3162364262 times better than Thatcher or Major.

And as we are no Freepers, so we shouldn't be making Vincent Foster-type allegations.

Do you think any of these inquiries would be happening if Blair was a Tory?

I think that Blair joining Bush may actually have been one of the better (inadvertant) things for the progressive left. Bush would have attacked Iraq anyway if Blair had pulled out, but because Blair stayed in, at least Americans have a source of English-speaking media that is criticizing the war. Where would we be without the BBC's active involvement in investigating the conflict?

9. I like the point you make
At least we have an English speaking news outlet that will report on the war with a critical approach.

10. Nice concept accept...
...I don't buy your reasoning because I don't think the majority of American people would have supported invading Iraq if the coalition of the willing had consisted of just Junior and his minions here in the US. Whether Junior would have invaded without the American peoples support is a debatable issue and not close to being a sure thing as you are suggesting.

11. "BBC" does not equal the "poodle"...
To appreciate that the BBC does their job (?!) is totally unconnected to the poodle's smarmy, enabling support of an unecessary and unjust war. To rephrase Wesley Clark, that was a "Prime Ministerial-level misjudgement".

12. Would these inquiries be happening if Blair was a Tory?
in a word...YES It was enquiries like this into the likes of "cash for questions" that helped to destroy the tory party. Of corse the fact that Blair was willing to lay into the sleazeballs back then helped, now unfortunatly he is one of them.

BTW, the likes of the Guardian and the Independent would be criticizing bush regardless of whether or not Blair had decided to appease them in a way that is both morally abhorent and in no way in the best interests of the people he is supposed to serve. Sorry to say this but for a good number of us on Britain's left Blair's actions have been quite simply unforgivable. Particularly when you consider that in order to get us into the unwanted & unessessary war Blair lied.
