Highway Patrol: Days before Janklow crash report ready
Edited on Mon Aug-18-03 02:19 AM by IthinkThereforeIAM

Peter Harriman
Sioux Falls Argus Leader
published: 8/18/2003

Accident reconstructionists from the South Dakota Highway Patrol spent much of Sunday collecting information from a car-motorcycle collision that killed a Minnesota man and injured Congressman Bill Janklow, who was driving.

It could be several days before their report is complete and authorities determine whether to seek charges.

The victim was identified as Randy Scott, 55, a farmer, trucker and military veteran from rural Hardwick.

In Hardwick, cynicism, as well as sadness, surrounds Scott's death, according resident Orvin Green. In town "they want to know if there is a coverup going on," he said.

"That's what we want to know. If I would have killed somebody, the accident scene would have been opened by dark last night," Green said. But with Janklow involved, "they close it for 22 hours."

Remember, this is "GW's #1 secret friend" by his own admission.

This made front page of Sunday's Sioux Falls ArgusLeader, and television crews were kept one mile away from the scene of the accident on Saturday afternoon.

1. A full scale investigation is needed now!
I want the House Ethics Committee to investigate. I want his challenger next year to run ads on the accident, replete with bloody photos of the scene.

This is how the other side would play it.

9. Ethics Committee?
This would have nothing to do with House rules. Running ads about this would be so STUPID. He would win in a landslide. When Democrats ran ads using the sniper shootings it backfired and that was at least using the opponents pro-gun position. This should not be used politically. Someone did die!!!!!! Don't bring up Kennedy. We are supposed to be better than the Republicans.

2. Will Stephanie Herseth run again?
I hope so. Hopefully, South Dakotans will see this as another indication that Janklow expects (and gets) favored treatment.

3. Election and Ethics...

...I sure hope Stephanie runs again, she has been deemed a rising star in South Dakota politics and her family has a long heritage (governorship, state legislature) in the democratic party in South Dakota.

Janklow has always felt he was above the law and has quite a history with speeding tickets, despite what his son Russ, a lawyer himself, has to say about his dad's driving record. There actually was a poster made of Janklow standing with a couple of Corvette's back in the late 70's or early 80's when he kept on getting busted by the Highway Patrol for speeding/excessive speed on state highways.

For an accident investigation?
On edit:
The bike had the right of way.
This "investigation" would seem to be investigating a way to get his sorry ass out of trouble.
More of that republican accountability that we've come to expect.

11. If this had been someone else...
would they had kept the media a mile away or allowed them closer access?

8. Local CBS affiliate is ...

... freaking on this, they have four reporters working on it, from my count watching the local broadcast. Now get this, Janklow had a "data recorder" in his Cadillac which they will be using to "figure out what happened". This just gets fishier and fishier.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota CBS affiliate KELO-TV has half their main page covering this: <http://www.kelotv.com/>

10. A data recorder in Janklow's car
but no black box or voice recorder in Wellstone's plane. (I am NOT saying the two are related.) But what a weird and (I'll bet lucky) break for Janklow. Fate does seem to look out for Republicans.

Anyone remember the details of Janklow raping a Lakota woman back when he was AG in South Dakota?

Both on Janklow's history of speeding tickets and on the rape chages by the Indian woman who conveniently turned up dead before it could go to trial.
