Iraqi Women struggle to be heard
Edited on Mon Aug-18-03 11:37 AM by Mari333
Things are a lot worse now, there's no security, women cannot go out, cannot express themselves, the veil has become compulsory for Muslims and Christians.

"If you walk on the street without a veil now you can get killed.

"I was insulted just standing on my balcony because my hair was showing.

People here say they don't expect the coalition authorities to make women's rights a priority, but if things are to change for women in Iraq, women will have to work alongside men to effect real change and men will definitely have to be on board. ..................

MAD AS HELL

How can we see our sisters so persecuted and say nothing? Do nothing?

2. This makes me so angry.
We couldn't stop the war, how can we stop this? We can scream all we want but another 4 years of Bush* and we may be looking at the same thing here. I know, that is a bit of a stretch. What more can we do? We didn't help in Afghanastan either, we tried but really, who in this administration cares about women? Got any ideas? I will be glad to jump in.

4. amen to that Jitterbug Perfume
I've long said that as long as women anywhere are oppressed, so are we all.

This makes me so mad. At what point do women "get it" and form an army, and start fighting back?

6. Pleez...
equity pay disputes are a far cry from public stonings or court ordered gang rapes...
so...american army in, freedom out...
An often repeated pattern...no?

7. pay equity?

I suggest a global women's army to fight back against crimes against women all over the world. We cannot rely on men to stop violence against women - we need to take matters into our own hands.

8. I think we might
surprise a few men on this planet. Peaceful? Yes. Loving? Yes. Peacemakers? Yes. Just threaten us and watch how how loyalty takes over. I would be hard pressed to actually fight for much but for human rights. You bet.
