Justice Minister Cauchon says Canada must make same-sex marriages equal Canadian Press

MONTREAL (CP) - Canada must do better than making same-sex marriages "almost equal" because accepting anything less is discrimination, federal Justice Minister Martin Cauchon said Monday.
Cauchon was speaking at the annual meeting of the Canadian Bar Association and acknowledged he was stepping outside the tradition of speaking on only one issue instead of highlighting the federal government's record on justice issues.
He challenged some MPs who have said same sex relationships should be recognized but not called "marriage."
The federal government believes this proposal falls short of full equality, Cauchon said.
"Clearly, we must do better than almost equal," he told the meeting.
