Bush signs bill to defer student loan payments for active-duty troops
CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) -- President Bush on Monday signed legislation that gives military personnel a reprieve from student loan payments while they are on active duty. ..

The legislation also asks colleges to provide a full refund of tuition and fees to students whose schooling is interrupted by military service and to make it easier for those students to reapply for admission when they return from military duty.

1. How About Paying Down Those Loans?
Wouldn't it be the patriotic thing to actually make at least the regular payments on those student loans for servicemen and women, so they have at least a little less debt when they return from active duty?

2. I've got a bad feeling.......
When has Bush ever done anything that benefits the troops? I'm glad that those on active duty will now be getting some of the financial and educational hardship of being called up to active duty lifted...BUT...(I'll put on my tinfoil hat, thank you)..does this make marketing a draft more acceptable to the sheeple? I hope this isn't part of any September surprises from you-know-who.

3. * talks the talk when it comes to service people but can't walk the walk.
This is especially galling considering his "Top Gun" photo-op. But it's not the first time he's screwed our service people.

1) First of all he cut back payments to public school districts that had large numbers of military dependants attending. The federal government ave money to these schools to make up for the lack of property tax revenue since most service people did not own their homes.

2) He cut back money for veteran's hospitals.

3) Last week Dave Ross ( KIRO AM Seattle, M-F 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM) interviewed the publisher of "The Army Times" who acknowledged the administrations attempt to revoke combat pay for our soldiers in Iraq.

It is high time our corporate media start telling the truth about G DUHbya instead of kissing the ass of that inbred silver spoon mental midget.

4. Well, that did it. I'm convinced
What a humanitarian. What a leader. What a swell guy. Looks like my vote'll be going ol' *'s way come 2004.

NOT. What a pansy-ass too little too late gesture to all these decent, hard-working and honorable kids who thought they were gonna do the right thing and defend the US against terrorism one weekend a month and maybe earn a little to better themselves through attending college. No shit the loans should be deferred. How about forgiven if an individual should chose to use their GI bill that way?

5. Big whoop.
So they don't have to make their payments while they're gone. How generous. Of course the loans will still be there waiting when they get back, assuming that they do get back.
