Bush Hopeful Energy Bill Can Be Reworked

President Bush voiced confidence Tuesday that pending energy legislation in Congress can be reworked to address the sort of electricity transmission problems typified by last week's widespread blackout.

Chatting with reporters while on his way to play golf not far from his ranch here, Bush said a conference committee of House and Senate lawmakers, designed to resolve differences in the energy bill, should be "up and running" in about three weeks.

Bush said he talked by phone Monday night with Rep. Billy Tauzin, R-La., and Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., two of Congress's leading players on energy issues.

"Both members are very optimistic about reaching an agreement, obviously on infrastructure modernization," he said, "but as importantly, other issues related to energy."

I think it's obvious that those energy meetings had nothing to do with the common good, but were centered on something much more deceitful.
Think people will get a clue?

"Just speculatively, of course, what would have to happen to get our way?"

"I think the public would need to experience widespread disruptions. When they're scared, we can get our way."

"What kind of disruptions?"

"Well, if all of California, already with the lowest per capita energy use and not able to use much less, were subjected to power shortages and hugely inflated electrical prices, we might be able to blame it on those Democrats there and get people elected who're willing to let us drill offshore and consolidate more holdings there. Remember, thanks to good ol' Pete and Phil, we have just the right kind of power there to do this if we work carefully together rather than compete."

"Anything else?"

"Well, let's recall the blackouts in the Northeast in 1965. After that happened, we made a great deal of progress in taking over the infrastructure so we could make massive profits by sucking it dry. Maybe a widespread blackout would help get huge amounts of public money without strings."

"Well, like I said, it's just speculation." {wink} {wink}

All our energy problems will be solved when * gets his way and the drilling platforms are moved to the ANWR. Why can't people understand that is the key to our secure energy future?
