32. I Am a Christian!
You're right, it is a terrible insult to Jesus. In addition, since they are using a picture of the Sacred Heart, a primarily Catholic symbol, it's an insult to the Catholics.

I remember in 2000 when Alan Keys addressed bob jones university, he called them to task on their anti-Ctholic views and rules against inter-racial dating. Not long after, when bush jr. was there, he just gave his speech with a doofusie smile on his face and did not address these issues. Given his silence on these issues, you could say that since I'm a Roman Catholic in a bi-racial marriage, bush jr. is opposed to my wife and I (especially since we're not rich). To call bush a Christian is an insult to anyone's intelligence given his conduct.

Once again, ANY D over any r in '04 (or '03)

If I considered myself a Christian, I'd be far more upset about Bush going around spewing bible passages than a magazine parody.

74. I think using the Sacred Heart makes a very clever satirical statement
about what kind of "Christian" Bush really us. The big phony is always talking about his "heeeaaaart "and how compassionate he is and he is always going on about how the people in his admininstration have such "good hearts."

It is like he thinks meaning well and having good intentions is enough, no matter what the harmful results of his policies are.

Also, the Sacred Heart talks about the sacrifice that Jesus made and it is so obvious that Bush has never sacrificed one little thing ever in his life.

Basically, this photo is saying "GW *IS* Jesus Christ"---which of course, no mortal man can be Jesus.

I'm spiritual, but not necessarily "denominational" and I find this appalingly offensive.

I feel he'll lose a bunch of Christian Votes because of this---especially Fundy Christians who think that Crosses and Crusifixes are "graven images" and "idols" and such....

15. I don't think it matters---
Unless he comes out and says "I do not condone being made into Jesus Christ", which I don't think he will because I think *HE* thinks he's Jesus, the Fundies will be very, very upset with this.

There are also Revelations-based verses that the 3rd Antichrist will claim to be the Son of God resurected, but won't be the REAL Jesus....

Many Armageddon-types will be quite upset with this. Many mainstream Christians will be upset with this. Many Americans who are not Christians will be upset with this UNLESS Bush specifically makes a statement that he disaproves of this----

This picture will prove 'those people' have no respect for Christianity or religion. It'll prove 'they' are out to get Bush. It'll prove 'they' will go to any lengths to disparage this great man of God and just don't understand what living your faith is all about. This will give Bush WAY MORE support, not less. It's going to outrage the fundies, you bet, but not in the way you think.

The majority in the US are either believers or at least respect the beliefs of others enough to find this offensive. As someone above suggested this mockery of the religious beliefs of others will backfire.

Mocking Bush may be quite a fun and clever thing to do in the graphics arts dept of GG, but it will simply tighten up his support in the country. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" sort of thing.

At least that is my reaction to the picture. I could be wrong. A lot depends on what the article actually says. I think it will be a good thing for the country and the world if the article discusses God's selection of Bush to be president and God's instructions to Bush to go after Saddam etc.

76. But can a mortal be Christ? (as opposed to being Jesus)
I do believe that the gnostics hold this view, and I myself come pretty close to holding this view.

I sort of think that Jesus wanted to set an example, to show anyone who would listen that they can find their own "Christ-nature" (or Buddha-nature if you like, doesn't matter which words you use, what matters is the ideas behind the words).

I think the doctored photo isn't sacrilige, just parody. If someone were really trying to say that Bush is Jesus, well, that might border on the sacreligious.

I take it as, you're supposed to take the Gospel without question, and Bush and the neo-cons sincerely believe he's above question and/or is worthy of the same unfailing loyalty as Christ. His demand for blind loyalty is well-known, and he's quite the reborn Christian with a sense of divine purpose, don't you know. A reborn Christian who orders up wars, but a Christian nonetheless.

Like to read the article, though.

30. I don't care if it rains or freezes...
'Long as I got my Plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car.

...(snip)

Once His robe was snowy white,
Now it isn't quite so bright -
Stained by the smoke of my cigar.
If I weave around at night,
And policemen think I'm tight,
They never find my bottle - though they ask.

Plastic Jesus shelters me,
For His head comes off, you see
He's hollow, and I use Him for a flask.
Plastic Jesus! Plastic Jesus,

Riding on the dashboard of my car ...
Ride with me and have a dram
Of the blood of the Lamb -
Plastic Jesus is a holy bar.

is going to imply that Bush sees himself as Jesus Christ. We already know he thought that God's hand was directing the supreme court in choosing him in 2000, it's not a huge stretch to imagine he thinks himself the son of god as well.

41. "The Revelation of St. George"
Here are Bush's exact words, quoted by Haaretz: "God told me to strike at al Qaeda and I struck them, and then He instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me, I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."

My favorite part is that Bush's God cares more about the elections than peace in the Middle East.

1. I would think so. Especially when God is telling you to kill.

2. Not that I know of but I wouldn't be surprised if Bush thinks that God sounded a lot like Dick Cheney.

3. Might be one of those "God works in mysterious ways" kind of things. Although as I recall the Bible, after that first week which included some overtime, God didn't really show up for work all that often.

43. TERRORIST - TERRORIST
He looks just like a swarthy middle-eastern terrorist.

Okay, I'll admit it, I stole that from Betty Bowers.

55. There's a GREAT Terry Allen song about this
Gimme a Ride to Heaven Boy

Well I was caught up with myself
On the highway at night
Drivin like a bat outta hell
When I beheld an amazing sight
It was a lonely apparition
By the roadside standing there
With his thumb out in the wilderness
And a halo in his hair

Chorus:
He said "Gimme a ride to heaven boy
I'll Show you paradise
Yeah gimme a ride to heaven boy
My name is Jesus Christ"
So I come screeching to a halt
I said "Hop on in"
He sais "thanks a lot for the lift
I forgive you of your sins
Yeah I just come from Jerusalem
Where things are going bad
Ahhh gimme a ride to heaven boy
I need to talk to my dad"

Chorus

Well I didn't know what to do
So I jammed her down in gear
Kind a kicked my feet beneath the seat
I was trying to hide the beer
Ahhh but he just grinned and said "My friend,
I know you must think it's odd
But you got nothin to fear about drinkin a beer
If you share it with the son of God"

Chorus

Well I saw good news in his baby blues
So I stomped it on the floor
I said you have to show me how to get there
I ain't been before
"Well it’s a hard place to find" he said
"But I'll give you a little clue
It ain't somewhere up in the air
Its sittin right here inside with you"
Then right in the middle of that perfect smile
From his robes he pulled a gun
An stuck it up beside my head and said
"How's this for Kingdom Come?"
Well I pulled off scared but I heard him say
As he left me beneath the stars
"The Lord moves in mysterious ways
and tonight, my son ... He’s gonna use your car"
Chorus repeats

54. Gotta love Drudge. Usually he stays away from articles that
may put Bush in a iffy light. But sometimes he slips a good one in there.

70. I have always wondered when Christ
'sat' for that beautiful portrait. It has always bothered me that Christ is most often portrayed as a beautiful (sometimes blonde/blue eyed) creature unblemished by the forty days spent in the desert sun and a lifetime of toil. Why do people consider flags and portraits sacred ? Idol worship ?

In this picture, he looks like he's ready to fire up the bong or something.

79. Vile and Disgusting
is what stikes me about this photo. Anyone who is a christian should be immediately alarmed and disgusted by this. And hopefully that is GQ's point. Anyone who proclaims to have been chosen by god to bomb Afghanistan and Iraq, and to lead 'merica is no better than those that believe there are virgins waiting in heaven for them, if they will only blow themselves up.

IMPEACH BUSH. IMPEACH THE FELONIOUS FIVE.
