Four U.S. Soldiers Wounded by Makeshift Bomb in Iraq [20.08.]

TIKRIT, Iraq (Reuters) - Four U.S. soldiers were wounded on Wednesday when a makeshift bomb was detonated near their convoy in northern Iraq (news - web sites), a U.S. Army spokesman said.

Lieutenant Colonel William MacDonald of the 4th Infantry Division said the attack happened in a village near Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s hometown of Tikrit.

Guerrilla attacks on U.S. forces have killed 61 American soldiers since May 1. Many of the attacks have involved roadside bombs or improvised mines that were detonated as convoys drove past.

Or a foot or arm blown off? The media needs to get specific with these "wounds" so Americans can understand the carnage they have set our troops up against.

3. What is the military practise re notice to next of kin?

Death only? What about missing in action? And is that broken down into missing versus missing and presumed dead? Wounded?
Saw one report at least a week ago - newspaper article cited to in thread on DU, that parents reported their soldier son lost a leg in an attack which the military reported as having NO injured Americans.

4. My local radio station

is reporting that a soldier, whose home is about 20 miles from where I live here in PA, was killed on Monday by a bomb. He has a wife and a couple of children. Hopefully, I'll know more when the newspaper arrives.

made the front page of the local paper, along with another story by the boy's mother.

"Eric Raymond Hull, 23, an Army Reserve specialist who worked as a cook and is a 1998 graduate of Uniontown Area High School, died Monday in Baghdad, Iraq, while returning from the airport with a truckload of supplies." He ran over a landmine.

Eric was a cook and a chef. He has 2 children, a girl 3 and a boy, 1.

I doubt they would report an injury if the soldier was able to return to duty. The troops are wearing interceptor body armor. The body armor just covers the torso and optionally the neck. This leaves the arms and completely exposed to harm. Every time I hear of wounded I shudder to think of the horrible suffering our troops are being exposed to.

I am afraid that Americans are just getting used to all of the injuries and deaths and are willing to accept them.

I posted a link above for a reservist who was killed by the name of Eric Hull. He was serving as a cook and just on a supply run. I can just hear him telling his wife before he left that she shouldn't worry because cooks aren't in danger.
