Schwarzenegger Convenes California Economic Summit
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1896&e=9&u=/nm/politics_california_dc

By Dan Whitcomb

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Flanked by a billionaire investor and a former secretary of state, Republican actor Arnold Schwarzenegger convened a high-profile summit on Wednesday to forge economic policy for his campaign to become governor in the Oct. 7 recall election.

Schwarzenegger, under fire from critics for so far being vague and platitudinous in the campaign, vowed to make the state a "magnet for business" and added, "We all know that California right now is going in the wrong direction."

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett (news - web sites) and former Reagan administration Secretary of State George Shultz, who flanked the former bodybuilder, both agreed that he was the man who should replace embattled Democratic Gov. Gray Davis (news - web sites).

Buffett, a Democrat, said he got into the campaign for Schwarzenegger out of allegiance to California, the Nebraska businessman's second home.

--------------

More vagueries from Schwarzenegger and gang.
The more I see of this guy, the more it's reminding me of the Bush administration (not to mention Reagan). Seeing Buffet and Schultz up there behind this figurehead celebrity, it suddenly dawned on me....this would be just another oligarchy. Only this time running California. Schwarzenegger up there making meaningless speeches as a front while the other two (and I'm sure they'll eventually add more) wheel and deal behind the scenes.

4. Oh, now I see the light...
Schwarzenegger, under fire from critics for so far being vague and platitudinous in the campaign, vowed to make the state a "magnet for business" and added, "We all know that California right now is going in the wrong direction."

I thought he was vague before, too. But now that he is doing photo-ops with billionaires, his economic policy is very clear, now. Like about...hmm...like when he said...like what he's going to do about... Oh, wait...never mind.
:(

5. What's Warren Buffet's angle?
Is this some kind of senile fantasy for the wizard of Omaha? He's a Democrat. Opposed to Bush's tax cuts. Opposed to the limits imposed by the sacred Prop. 13. Whose advice is obviously being completely ignored and who's being used just for his name. How do the investors of Berkshire-Hathaway feel about their once sober Midwest guru turning into a movie extra in Arnold's latest mega production? Is Buffet really going to sink all their money into California state bonds? And how will it help to close the deficit when Californians realize how high the interest rate will have to be to pay on those bonds. Besides, as a native Californian, it's striking that no one on Arnold's committee is from California, including Arnold.

7. That's not a summit. That's not even a foothill!
<rimshot>

But seriously, were there any top California business leaders at this shindig, or has Omaha now been annexed to the Central Valley? :-)

Or is CA now up for sale to the highest bidder? And if so, why not just put it on eBay? :-)

9. Very, very disappointed in Buffett
Oh Warren, et tu?

While I, as a Californian, agree with Buffett's views on Prop. 13, it sickens me that he's hitched his reputation and credibility to this sham of a campaign. Perhaps he'll realize, in the days to come, that the "sure thing" he thought he was signing on for is anything but.
