Kelly 'not distressed' during grilling
The latest from the Hutton enquiry

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3169189.stm

The chairman of the Commons committee which interrogated Dr David Kelly three days before his death has said the scientist showed no signs of distress during the hearing.

Donald Anderson told the Hutton inquiry into Dr Kelly's death the weapons expert had laughed at times during the questioning by the foreign affairs select committee.

Dr Kelly's evidence convinced the committee that he could not have been the BBC's source for claims Downing Street "sexed up" a key intelligence dossier to exaggerate the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction.

Mr Anderson said Dr Kelly had been "clearly on top of the subject" and the only problem was that he had spoken softly on what was a very hot, sultry afternoon. Had Dr Kelly "shown any evident signs of distress, I would hope that I would have responded accordingly," said the Labour MP.

1. Nothing on BBC News this morning
I watched 3 different BBC World News (on BBC America) reports this morning and there was nothing about this inquiry. I was so surprised.

I thought this would be a major story.

2. 'British government curbed Kelly's testimony'
British Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon tried to stop parliamentarians from quizzing scientist David Kelly about the dossier on which Prime Minister Tony Blair based a case for war with Iraq, a senior British politician said on Thursday.

It's in your story too.

So they obviously assassinated him. Or Bush sent the CIA to assassinated him.

4. I suspect they wated to stay away from extensive discussion on
the dossier because they wanted only to talk about whether the dossier was sexed up. Kelly was on record as disagreeing (on a personal level) with the contents of the dossier. They didn't want to talk about his opinions. They wanted to talk about the facts. If BBC was reporting without having facts, they wanted to prove it. I believe that Kelly ended up being asked about his opinions anyway.

3. Or, Iraqi secret agents killed him if you believe the other
post ("I'lll probably be found dead in the woods").

In any event, this story contradicts a bunch of other stories about his demeanor. I believe his wife has been on both sides of this issue (of whether he was depressed).

5. Or maybe not
Here is the article you mention

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/3170593.stm

Mr Broucher said he had thought Dr Kelly was talking about possible Iraqi vengeance

"I now see that he might have been thinking on rather different lines," he added.

Dr Kelly, the source for the BBC story that the dossier was "sexed up" by Downing Street, had also told the diplomat that every line of the document was fought over before its publication last September.
