6. Hamas aren't Arafat's boys...
and besides, Abu Mazen was always seen as the hope by the Israelis and Americans, not the Palestinian people. They don't trust him.

10. That's right
What America and Israel wants is someone who will sell out the Palestinians, and they were hoping Abu Mazen would be do that for them. One day they will get their sell-out.

11. Nope. They're Sharon's boys.
Hamas is to Likud what Al Qaeda is to the Bush Criminal Empire. A Terrorist group created to give them excuses to be fascist assholes.

17. the RW does seem to have

pushed up the volume on the propaganda haven't they. Once again it is two completely different accounts. Once again there is no balance and what is coming out of the megaphone from Foxnes and CNN is this conflict all of it for the last 55 years is because of the arab palestinians. so much for Israel admitting anything. Alot of people are going to die. The bombing certainly does look like a cue. well it isn't as if I am surprised. Just as I said yesterday the old justifiable retaliation routine all the propagandists are going to keep screaming now is how hamas blew the hudna which is what Arafat has been commanding all along. You hear the din rising?

15. Abu Mazen isn't Arafat's boy either
He is making some of the tough decisions that Arafat never did.

4. Forbidden from PR and Marching with weapons - tough response!
Since Abbas and Arafat only agreed on a joint statement which said the Palestinian Authority would enforce the rule of law, take control of illegal weapons and end "military displays" by the militants, a reference to marches led by gunmen, with Islamic Jihad and Hamas officials saying they were ordered by Palestinian police not to speak to reporters, and that many leaders of the two groups had their phones turned off Thursday, You'd think that they would be happy!

Heck - no actions such as arrests are in the statements, and only an aside to reporters by spokesmen that there would be detentions (last go round of detentions was for about 30 days).

Yet these folks are telling the west: "It's a campaign that even in the worst nightmares, Hamas and Islamic Jihad never imagined. There's a list of people to be arrested." per Elias Zananiri, a spokesman for Palestinian security chief Mohammed Dahlan.

Can we say acting, or pretend!

:-)

7. Can any Palestian leader be effective as long as their lives are
threatened by the militant groups. It seems to me that's Arafat was never able to effect change because he was unwilling to put his life on the line. Anyone who does could very well end up like Rabin, killed by radical elements of his own people.

8. Depends what you mean by 'militant groups'
I imagine the average Palestinian is fairly militant. The fact is Hamas is not some fringe organization. It does considerable charity work and enjoys a lot of support among ordinary Palestinians, who are disgusted by Arafat's corruption.
