GOP to Millions of American Families: You're Not Invited to Our Party; PFLAG Condemns Republican Party Platform

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) denounces the Republican party platform approved yesterday, which bans marriage equality and opposes recognition of all civil unions. By calling for a constitutional amendment to deny federal and state rights to millions of American families, the Republicans once again prove they are not the "big tent" party of "compassionate conservatives."

"When access to legal standing as a family is denyed, everyone loses -- including tax payers," said PFLAG's Executive Director Ron Schlittler. "When discrimination in access to legal standing as a family is ended, everyone wins." ..

"The platform is in opposition to 70 percent of Americans - who may not support marriage equality but are absolutely opposed to writing discrimination into our constitution," said Alice Leeds, PFLAG's Director of Communications. "It is mean spirited, it is offensive and it is foolish."

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) is the nation's foremost family-based organization committed to the civil rights of gays, lesbians, bisexual and transgender persons. Founded in 1973 by mothers and fathers, PFLAG has over 250,000 members and supporters in more than 500 chapters throughout the United States.

1. Wow, opposes recognition of all civil unions...
Sure hope that gets some play. Don't most Americans at least support some form of civil union, even if they don't support gay marriage?

3. Wonder what Rep. David Dreier's position is on this
Constitutional ban? As a gay man, this should
be more central to his partnership.

Call his office and find out:

8. I can't wait for four more years of this....after all the gays are exiled,
who's next? Maybe we can return back to making inter-racial marriage illegal? Women lose the right to vote. Black men are 3/4's a person. Women are property. The good ol' days are returning under the Bush regime.
