Convention uses 9/11 to define presidency
Like a warrior in the round, President Bush (news - web sites) stood in shirtsleeves in a crowded school gymnasium in the Florida hamlet of Niceville, once again offering up wistful words for the role he inherited on Sept. 11, 2001.

"Nobody wants to be the war president. People want to be the peace president," Bush said. It was just one of many times in one of many settings that the president has infused his speeches with references to the devastating terrorist attacks. It is the rhetorical armor and constant anthem of his presidency.

In the city where the attacks marked a new era of national fear, the Republican Party opens its convention Monday, leaning heavily on the episode that transformed Bush into a wartime president and protector, a mantle he hopes will secure his re-election.

If the convention of Bush's Democratic rival, Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites), could be distilled into a single word--Vietnam--the president's might be reduced to a word and a number--Sept. 11.

It is the first time in 30 years that a president has sought re-election in wartime, and the Republicans will provide a showcase for what they believe is the greatest single strength that Bush possesses: resolve in the face of terrorism.

are you ready to puke yet???.....:puke:

1. move on needs to do what i suggested the other day....
they need to run ads during the convention showing chimpy twisting his lips and looking at the floor for 27 minutes after hearing the second tower was hit on 911. they need to expose this incompetent puppet for what he is by showing how he sat around waiting for someone to tell him what to do after we were hit by the worst terrorist act in our history.

5. I still think a great advertisement would be:
I still think a great advertisement would be a series of 90 second spots, shown consecutively during a long program, of Bush in the classroom.

Start with about 15 seconds before he is told about the second attack, and then just show the footage in 90 second blocks. No audio, no voice-over, no commentary. Nothing but a small clock in one corner counting off the amount of time he sat there.

Silence on TV can seem like an eternity when it goes on for 15-20 seconds. Try it in 90 second blocks, to emphasize the nothingless. Just every break, pick up where the last one left off, counter and all.

3. I really hope this backfires
They're using the tragedy that killed thousands of people as political propoganda and it may leave a bad taste in a lot of mouths. Disgusting

6. It is fine to use this as long as they use it correctly -- it defines this
administration as a catastrophic failure! They failed before 9/11, during 9/11 and after. I really don't see how they can wear this as a badge of honor. They failed to protect us and thousands died and continue to die.

9. Thought W relished being a "war" president, but a failed presidency
will forever be his legacy, even if this Republic should last another thousand years or more, because it was on his watch that 9-11 was not thwarted notwithstanding the mountain of intelligence streaming in from around the world of impending attacks and he then put the war against terrorism on the back burner in order to achieve PNAC dream/goal of invasion and occupation of Iraq.

12. It defines him alright, it happened because he was too
stupid to heed all the warnings he was given. It defines him as the world class ass that he is.

13. What's so hard about this?
Get every Democrat talking head on television right now. This is the statement:

"Why is George W. Bush heralding the death of three thousand Americans, and the worst attack on our soil since Pearl Harbor, as the pinnacle of his Presidency? Is the complete failure of domestic security and intelligence a point of pride?"

16. Dumbya is just proud he has a media that blames Clinton.
Instead of his court appointed wimpy ass. Who did not listen to or god forbid read the warnings the Clinton administration gave him about Bu$h`s former business partner Osama Bin Laden. When leadership and Bu$h`s name are in the same sentence. There should be a loud laugh track to go along with it.
Peace
Wildman

17. How about reminding people of the "Trifecta" comment?
Surely a few people out there would find that in extremely poor taste, if nothing else.
