Just heard watching the Phillies/Cardinals game on FOX.

1. As a kid growing up,

he was one of my favorites. I remember when the Giants had both him and Willy Mays in the same outfield, Juan Marichal pitching, McCovey staked out at first....

Remember Lon Simmons? I heard he passed on recently, which is too bad -- I think he was an outstanding announcer.

I remember at one point, McCovey was so dominant that he would draw intentional walks with the bases empty in close games.

Yep, those Giants teams were something.

Bonds used to be touted as the next Willie Mays; in fact, I think he was the first to be so touted. He didn't quite make it, but he was a fine player in his own right.

I heard Lon Simmons on knbr about half hour ago on a phone call from Hawaii where he lives in retirement. He was good friends with Bobby.
Just wanted to let you know Lon is still with us. He was outstanding announcer-enjoyed his broadcasts with both the Giants and 49ers.

I said I became an A's fan when Barry became a Giant. How in the world does that have anything to do with his dads death? I voiced the same sentiment the day the trade for Barry was announced.

Bobby was very much alive then. You need to go back to logic 101 school. There are these pesky things called reason and putting things in context, obviously you failed that course.

7. Rest in Peace, Bobby Bonds

He was just at a game a few days ago to watch his son.

I'm also happy Barry was able to take time to be with him last week.

8. Sad day

I've been a Giants fan since they came to S.F. in 1958 when I was a kid. We've been lucky here to have had many ,many, wonderful players and Bobby was one of them. His first hit in his first game as a big leaguer was a grand slam!
Speed, power,good defense,he had it all as a player and a good,nice man as well. I have to mention this- I was absolutely thrilled when his son Barry came to the Giants and he has given us fans uncountable thrills and happy moments and I'm proud to have him on our team.

13. I read an interview with Bobby after his trade to the Yankees

He said his family had adjusted to the bicoastal relocation except for his 10-year old son Barry, who hadn't wanted to leave his Little League team. In fact, Barry's coach had offered to have Barry live with him for the rest of the Little League season!
