Decker talking about making return to N.C. GOP
Associated Press
RALEIGH, N.C. - Rep. Michael Decker, the Forsyth County lawmaker whose switch to the Democratic Party this year deadlocked the state House, is thinking about going back to the GOP.
Decker's decision a week before the General Assembly convened in January turned a 61-59 Republican advantage in the chamber to a 60-60 split. The deadlock led to a historic co-speakership.
If he did switch, the Republicans would regain a 61-59 majority.
"I've talked with people about it," Decker told The News & Observer of Raleigh in an interview Friday. "It's always something that I was thinking about doing, but I'm not going to try to make my Democratic friends angry at me. I've been so well-received by my friends over there, and it's been a lot better for the Legislature."
