With a relentless spotlight beating down on electronic voting, some vendors are getting a bit squeamish about facing new questions and criticism alone.

Representatives from several vendors, including Green-based Diebold Inc., discussed forming an umbrella organization in a conference call Friday.

To manage the industry's public image, a task force of experts would be established to combat studies from critics, such as the team from Johns Hopkins University that went after Diebold's touch-screen voting system.

4. Reading the article...

it seems to me, given that the writer doesn't credit a news release, spokesman, etc, for her information on the meeting, I would bet she learned of the meeting from BBV or scoop and then contacted some of the people she quoted for responses. Far from this saying it wasn't a secret meeting, I think it is the reverse.

No mention of the $200,000. Well I guess you would have had to been there and maybe took a look at some of those companies. How backwater is Mircosystems?

And by the way I think the fact that SAIC is verifing all these machines might be of slight interest to some folks!
