Dean Promotes Himself Like a Rock Star
Edited on Sat Aug-23-03 03:23 PM by w4rma
FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) - Looking to get a jump on the traditional post-Labor Day presidential campaign season, Democrat Howard Dean is promoting himself like a rock star with an eight-city road trip that began Saturday.

The trip is called the "Sleepless Summer Tour," but not because Dean won't get any sleep during its four days. He will. The name is a swipe at President Bush's policies and his monthlong vacation at his ranch in Crawford, Texas.

"While the president was sleeping in Texas, we are going to be out talking to people who are sleepless because they don't have health care, don't have good education and their kids are fighting in Iraq," Dean said in a telephone interview before his kickoff rally Saturday evening.

T-shirts promoting the tour are being sold to add to the concert-like experience, and some stops will feature loud music and cameras broadcasting the events live on Dean's Web site.

2. I saw young kids giving out leaflets at our HOWL (NYC Ginsburg festival
in Lower East Side. Nice to see, because here, people think they are "too cool to vote"

3. Well, their ability to "be cool" is...
..being severely restricted, so they'd best start caring. Glad to see that many are...

4. I wish I could have been there
I lived in NYC for 7 years and liked Allen Ginsberg very much. I once had a interesting conversation with him over coffee about the cliché of madness and the importance of accurate detail in writing about ones visions. (Yes he was a bit condescending in latter years, and kind of sex obsessed, but I admire him deeply). Sorry for going on, and if the Howl festival is not about Ginsberg, I will be embarrassed.

12. I am becoming increasingly convinced that not only is Dean electable,
he is the most exciting and energizing candidate we've had in years -- even more than Clinton. There's a fabulous 'in your face', daring quality about him coupled with straight forward practicality -- his candidacy seems to draw from a well of fresh ideas and I think will not only energize the democratic base with its populist direction, but I think has the wherewithal to draw out the inherent activism of the young. There's just something cool about Dr. Dean.

13. I agree wholeheartedly
I watch him and his campaign reinvigorating the democratic process, and it's VERY energizing. Very hopeful, too.

19. I agree....
my (closet republican) (claims he's a moderate) boss and friend, keeps asking me who I like in the democratic field.

I have been putting him off, citing 'it's too early to make a decision' as a rationale.

Now, however, I am prepared to actively support Dean, perhaps contribute.

IMHO, a Dean-Clark ticket would be wonderful, and damn near unbeatable.

16. Love this line from Dean
"If you want to be tough on defense, you have to do better than a foreign policy based on petulance."

Keep giving 'em hell, Howard!
