1. Bustamente May Have Won It Last Week

with his speech on his plans for closing the defecit. It was very specific and very passionate. He stated exactly where he was going and why he believed he could get there.

Arnold sounded like a complete novice. His plan was to appoint a committe and promise not to raise taxes. He kept saying no one had any idea what was in the budget, and he had to hire a consultant to figure it out.

People questioned the timing of Busamente's speech, promising to raise taxes just before Arnold's annoucement the next day. But Bustamente had clear mastery of his material, and made Arnold look like a piker.

2. 'Buyer's Remorse' Sets In Quickly
Edited on Mon Aug-25-03 09:16 AM by The Magistrate
It must be clear to the greatest number of the people of California this 'recall' is nothing but another of the various coup attempts by Republican reactionaries, aimed at overthrowing the result of elections they cannot win because their policies and attitudes are not supported by a majority of the people in this country. Unable to win at the polls, they have opted for a policy of extra-legal attempts to seize power the people have refused to entrust them with.

Further, California has shown a healthy tendency lately to resist attempts by the wealthy to purchase statewide office. The monies and celebrity of Schwartzenegger are no qualification whatever for high office. It should be remembered that those who say they will vote for him on the basis of the latter are, by and large, people who pay little attention to political matters: it is not likely many of them will bother to break their apolitical routines and actually show up at a polling place.
