Bush aide prods Israel, press ahead with 'road map'

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Aug 25 (Reuters) - The Bush administration vowed on Monday to see through a U.S.-backed peace plan despite Israeli-Palestinian violence and called on Israel to meet its responsibilities to help bring about a "peaceful change."

President George W. Bush "remains committed to the course that he laid out ... because it is the only course that will bring durable peace and security," U.S. national security adviser Condoleezza Rice said of the peace plan known as the road map.

Rice, speaking to veterans in San Antonio, said progress was being made and played down the fallout from last week's suicide bus bombing and Israel's response.

"Despite the horrific events of recent days, we have seen progress towards peace for Israelis and Palestinians," Rice said. "The terrorists will not succeed."

Since the commencement of the ceasefire (which applies only to Palestinians) on June 29, Israeli soldiers and settlers have killed 17 people (including 7 children), wounded 437 (including 88 children), arrested 593 people, confiscated 4,457 acres of land for Jewish settlements, bulldozed 987 acres of farmland, destroyed 12,462 trees and destroyed or damaged 253 houses.

The biggest part of the roadmap was for Abbas to disarm Hamas.
This he has already said he can't/won't do.

What Israel demands is the right to continue it's theft of Palestinian land, (and to murder anyone that gets in the way, including Americans like Rachel Corrie) - and to be allowed to do so in peace. This is considered 'just' because these are the plans of God; and how dare these crazy "leftist retards" and peace activists even question what God wants!
