The phrase became famous in the early nineties when United States president George Bush Sr., the victorious commander of the allied troops that liberated Kuwait from Saddam Hussein’s occupation was running for a second term.

An unknown governor from a poor southern state, Bill Clinton, emphasizing on the state of the US economy and the feeble pockets of US consumers, finally frustrated Mr. Bush’s ambitions.

Now a similar scenario seems to be building up even when current president George W. Bush Jr. hasn’t been so victorious in his defeat of Saddamn Hussein’s regime and occupation of Iraq.

According to the latest public opinion poll published by Newsweek, a majority of Americans would not vote again for Mr. Bush, but not because of the frustrating Iraq situation but rather because of the economy.

1. IIMHO its a combo of things: Poor/weak economy, frustration by the masses

of Bush and his smirky arrogant attitude, his closeness with Haliburton, etc, the BIG LIE re WMD, and the daily casualties our boys enduring.

The education thing is a fruad.

The Tax cuts for the rich revealed his position on how he truly feels.

The way he acted during the election theft and after too.

His inability to deal with a pesky pretzel

The photo op pics which are all staged.

5. The economy is going to get better. Iraq is not.

If the Idiot King hadn't tried to annex Iraq, he would be a strong candidate in the 2004 election. Now, he's stuck... he can't pull out of Iraq, and he can't commit the necessary forces (500,000 or so men) to improve the situation there. We can't even maintain the inadequate number of troops we have there now. He's begging other countries to come in and subsidize his empire-building, but the world is turning its back on him. He's finished.

... when Clinton made that slogan famous.

look at the unemployment figures, and factor in the fact that the official figures are hiding more real unemployment than in 1991. people have less hope. there are fewer opportunities. even community colleges are squeezing people out.

Clark supporters keep saying that "national security" is what this race should be all about, but i strongly disagree. Bush WANTS it to be about "national security" and foreign policy. he can always play the "commander in chief" card, and claim he knows things he can't tell us that would justify his policies. he can spin his failures as successes. but he can't lie about the economy to an unemployed person. Bush's biggest weakness is the domestic economy.

10. No, it's the Patriot Act , the WTO, Pot Legalization and the Death Penalty

Or at least that's what many DU'ers seem to think. Personally, I think that halting Bush's tax cuts and balancing the budget takes precedence over attempting to repeal the Patriot Act, abolish the WTO and the death penalty and legalizing marijuana.

just get that out of the way first, restore civil liberties. Then turn towards the long term goal of repairing the economy. Having the Iron Curtain placed on us by this Bananna Republic will immediately buoy people's spirits, which is where we need to start, IMHO.
