Smudge Reporting: Fox News drops lawsuit against Al Franken
NEW YORK - Fox News dropped its lawsuit against Al Franken on Monday, three days after a federal judge refused to block the liberal humorist from using the Fox slogan "Fair and Balanced" on the cover of his latest book.

Fox said it filed papers in federal court to withdraw the suit, which sought unspecified damages from Franken and Penguin Group, publisher of "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right."

4. What a shame!
At least I hope that the limited publicity Faux News did bring the book will assure its success. But it sure seems like Faux News could have helped Franken out a little bit longer.

7. Judge Chin's comments at the injunction hearing
not only made Fox look spitefully stupid, but they put Fox's attorneys on notice that he was prepared to slap them with Rule 11 sanctions.

As to Fox's graceless comments re: "It's time to return Al Franken to the obscurity that he's normally accustomed to," I think it's a little to late for that. As the old saying goes, you can't unring the bell.

"It's time to return Al Franken to the obscurity that he's normally accustomed to," Fox News spokeswoman Irena Steffen said.

On edit: It's nice to see that the Fox 'spokeswoman' lacks a grasp of English grammar--she ended a sentence with a preposition!!! (I wonder if she's good-looking, though.)

12. Dupe...
Although technically this post was the earliest on this subject, LBN rules require that the poster use the exact title of the linked-to article in the subject line. In this case, the subject line should read simply: "Fox News Drops Lawsuit Against Al Franken."

Also, the post below (same story) has several more responses, and as such, it would be best to keep our discussion about this story consolidated there:

Hiphopnation, your Washington Post link would be helpful in the other thread, and I hope you'll post it there. Locking this thread was a really tough call, and I apologize in advance if you feel we're being a little nitpicky on this one. :-)

Thanks!
