Ten Commandments monument may be removed early this week
<snip>

Minutes after the lawsuit was announced, police blocked off the front of the building with metal barricades. Building superintendent Graham George said they were erected to prevent protesters from leaning dangerously against the large windows and glass doors, where they have gathered for the last week.

The monument is expected to be removed this week, though at least one company refused the job. Clark Memorial, a Birmingham company that built and moved the monument into the building, declined for business and personal reasons, vice president Charles Tourney said.

Moore contends it is his duty to acknowledge God in the rotunda of the state government building.

1. Some local church could get some great PR
and up the plate collection if it offered to
take the rock....

14. Actually, I think
some church already did offer that -- right across the street from the building if I'm not mistaken.

Roy turned them down.

If he accepted, then it would look as though the church was doing God's work instead of ol' Roy himself. And remember, this isn't really about God's will -- it's about who gets the credit for it!

2. I have a suggestion
Since the monument belongs to the judge, why not take it to his house and put it in his front yard?

You can change the subject all you want but the issue in this sub-thread was with his front yard and not in any public building.

The 10C on your front yard means as much to some as a rainbow flag.

I would never make fun of either choice but that's just me and has nothing to do with politics.

15. Hi there, I was raised on the 10 C's
and I got the joke and didn't find it offensive. It wasn't attacking the 10 commandments per se, it was a frivolous crack at how much importance has been given to a piece of artwork that has been carved into a symbol of the meaning of the 10 commandments.

Who knows, I could be wrong. Blood may start pouring from its crevices, miracles will happen upon those who hath touched this idolatry, the blind will see, the poor will eat plentifully, etc.

if it turns out the G-d is really bothered by the actions of Alabamans and sends a plague of locusts or something? it would be entertaining if all the statues of Jesus simultaneosly starting weeping, and blood ran from the nails on the cross, and and and...

ok, were that to happen I might jsut be forced to reconsider my position on g-d. so bring it on!

36. Has anybody asked that whiteass nut case??
"Moore contends it is his duty to acknowledge God in the rotunda of the state government building."

Where it says it is his duty to do so?

On the subject of the 10 commandments...

Which was first? The 10 commandments, Code of Hammurabi or other early law?

What was our government and constitution based on?

Those answers would be the downfall of Moore and like minded individuals.

CNN just reported that the monument could be dragged the hell out of the building as soon as late this afternoon.

It'll be interesting to see if any of the christian protesters try to block the process and get squashed like grapefruits.

I'm sure the FOX lawyers are prepared to sue Al Franken for that as well.

47. Those nutcases complaining about violation of their rights...
Whistle Ass!!!

If they were required to worship someone elses god. YES
If they were required to pay a tax for the purpose of supporting all churches. YES
If they were required to perform marriage ceremonies for anyone. YES
If they were forbidden from worshipping in their own place of worship. YES
If they were forbidden from praying within their own home. YES
If they were forbidden from reading their holy book in their home. YES
If they were forbidden from taking their children out of public schools and placed in parochial schools for religious training. YES
If they were forbidden from thinking about god. YES
If they were forbidden from giving to their preferred religious charity/organization. YES

Then it would be a violation.

The marriage ceremony... A local minister wrote a letter in our paper stating that he would be forced by the government to perform same-sex marriages/unions. That is a crock because the only recognized marriage/union is by the state. And each religion is left to their requirements of who they will allow to be married by their churches. Individuals have the option of being married by a religious person or by a justice of the peace/judge or other person authorized by the state.

45. Regarding the actual removal,
I understand that there's some concern over how to remove it, given it's size and weight and that only specialized equipment and crew can handle it. I've also heard that the christnuts are threatening boycotts and other action against any company that touches it. But nothing says that it has to be removed in one piece. A few jackhammers and wheelbarrows and that thing could be out of there in a hurry. And just for good measure, they should dump the pieces on Roy's front lawn and send him the bill.

46. Just to put the onus on them...
They should had instructed Moore that if it wasn't removed in 48 hours then it would be removed by ANY means and they would still have to pay the bill either way. Also, that they would pay for any damages to the building resulting from the removal of the rock.

48. Has Anyone Heard of The Seven Laws of Noah

According to a site I went to, www.jewfaq.org, the Ten Commandments
are not referred to as commandments in the Torah or Rabbinical texts.

The translation means the Ten Sayings, Statements, Declarations, Words, Things. And that they are in reality parts of the 613 mitzvot,
or Jewish Commandments, which don't apply to Gentiles.

What does apply to Gentiles are The Seven Laws of Noah, since it is
believed that all humanity are his and his families descendents. These
Laws were given to Noah by God before the Great Flood, they are

1). To establish courts of law
2). Not to commit blasphemy
3). Not to commit idolatry
4). Not to commit incest or adultery
5). Not to commit bloodshed
6). Not to commit robbery
7). Not to eat flesh cut from a living animal

And since Noah and the Great Flood existed before Moses and the Ten
Commandments, wouldn't these Seven Laws take precedence over the Ten
Commandment.

Any theologians out there want to take a shot at this?
