U.S. Opposes Resolution on Protecting U.N. Staff and Humanitarian Workers
http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGADYJE7TJD.html

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The United States on Monday oppsed a resolution aimed at protecting U.N. staff because it fears it could lay the groundwork for prosecutions by the International Criminal Court, but negotiations on a compromise continued.

The Security Council scheduled a vote Tuesday on the resolution, which has languished since late April because of U.S. opposition but surged into the spotlight following last week's bombing of U.N. headquarters in Baghdad.

It calls for protecting U.N. and other humanitarian workers - and prosecuting those who try to harm them.

The United States objects to a reference in the resolution to attacks against humanitarian personnel and peacekeepers being considered a war crime by the International Criminal Court, a tribunal the Bush administration vehemently opposes.

1. What used to be called the wages of sin.
The Rovian gangsters are so evil that they themselves cannot deny the fact. So, in the interst of preserving their own wretched hides, they have to oppose the WCC. But now, their self-serving opposition to that court has forced them to "object" to a sane and proper resolution offering protection to people trying to help people.

Another black eye for our country, courtesy of our Precious Leader.

10. Exactly!
Just when you truly think you've heard and seen it all from the Bushistas, they surprise us yet again with ever more ridiculous absurd bullshit!

After the attack on the U.N. in Baghdad, how can any American not see how ridiculous this is?

5. Their opposition to the International Criminal Court........
Edited on Mon Aug-25-03 08:59 PM by benfranklin1776
......borders on the maniacal. They evidently fear with every fiber of their being the prospect of one day being publicly held accountable for their many war crimes one day in a body that they cannot control. Its their "Nuremberg Nightmare" if you will. This leads them to irrational opposition to even a basic protective measure such as this.

7. I agree, benfranklin!
I'm usually only really paranoid about those laws I'm actually breaking. So what does that tell us about their paranoid desire to avoid anything having to do with war crimes??

11. That is right, they might find
out who actually DID bomb the UN headquarters in Bagdad. And heaven forbid, Kissinger not being able to roam the globe freely without all those bothersome subpeonas.
