On another leg of his "Sleepless Summer Tour," Dean attracted some 900 people, according to organizers, as the candidate answered questions about health care, the U.S.-led war against Iraq and the economy. His comments on protecting American jobs played well in this blue-collar city hit hard by the recession.
"The reason this campaign can draw 900 people in Spokane at 9 in the morning is because we want our country back again," Dean said. "Stand up and be proud to be a Democrat."
While Dean's answers on health care and jobs drew approval from the audience, he had a tougher time responding to reporters' questions about issues of importance to Washington state voters.
