DEFENCE Secretary Geoff Hoon was last night being lined up as Tony Blair's sacrificial lamb over the Dr David Kelly affair.

Britain's spymaster - Joint Intelligence Committee boss John Scarlett - is preparing to back the PM today before the inquiry into Dr Kelly's death.

He is expected to clear Mr Blair and his spin chief Alastair Campbell of any wrongdoing in the row over "sexing up" _ a dossier on Iraq's weapons. And the Defence Secretary looks set to take the rap.

Mr Hoon, who yesterday flew back from holiday in the US, has been handed the "black spot" by No10 over his role.
