Sept. 11 Emergency Calls Transcripts Reveal Quick Thinking, Horror in WTC Tragedy

N E W Y O R K , Aug. 28— Authorities have released transcripts of the final conversations of 33 Port Authority employees who were inside the World Trade Center during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that collapsed the twin towers and killed nearly 3,000 people.

The transcripts, about 2,000 pages worth, were created from tapes of emergency calls and radio transmissions made after hijacked planes were slammed into the twin towers.

I'd imagine for litigation purposes but I don't know that.

I almost wish I hadn't posted them- I couldn't avoid getting sucked into the memory when I read them and it made me want to know someone else had seen them, too.

in people's lives - moments that changed all of us forever - and to have them typed out so dispassionately -

so much pain and anguish and terror -

why release them now? so that we will not forget why we are "at war" I suppose -

to distract everyone with raw emotions - to make people stop thinking and start feeling pain again?

Reading their words and knowing they're doomed. You want to help,but you can't.
How horrible this would be for family members to read.
I suspect more of this kind of thing will be released here and there,piece-meal till the election to keep people in the moment and to inflame feelings.

10. rove had to force tony blair issues off front pages....but, this should

remind people how LITTLE shrub has done to improve our security...hopefully, some BRAVE American will SPEAK UP and point out that shrub has yet to fund our emergency services, that fire departments have been forced to close, that shrub failed to fund communication improvements (as noted during the recent black-outs)...that all those BILLIONS of dollars are simply paying for a useless color-coded chart over at ridge's office...

that 28 pages of the 9/11 report were deleted by shrub, so that we can never figure out how to prevent this from happening again...that shrub is protecting his saudi friends, including shrub's financier, osama's brother...that shrub allowed the entire osama family to flee the USA in an airplane at the very time that all flights were grounded (unless you're close to the shrub, like the osama bin laden family is close to the bush family)...let this bring it all up again...if anyone is BRAVE enough to raise these issues and DEMAND the answers....

13. Won't this backfire? All I could think is

"And STILL no investigation" We know ALL about the shuttle and NASA and that report. They tore up the town in London to investigate the death of one journalist. Why won't this backfire? The passage of time grants a measure of objectivity, doesn't it. Won't more wonder 'why no investigation details'?

I don't know who made the decision to release these transcripts. There may or may not be political reasons behind it. But I do know one thing: the exchanges serve to remind me of how tenuous life is. That a person can go to work one day and not come home that evening. That one can even completely disappear off the face of this earth, leaving nothing, not even the clothes on one's back.

To make it seem as though this administration is doing some investigating
of this tragedy. Pity, it's probably the closest we will ever get to the results of a
