Despite Ethics Charges, Michigan Rep. Miller Remains Bush State Chair
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Candice Miller says she will continue to head President Bush's Michigan campaign despite the House ethics committee's admonishment of her for improperly pressuring a Michigan colleague to vote for Medicare drug legislation.

Miller, a Republican from Macomb County's Harrison Township, was admonished Thursday for telling retiring Rep. Nick Smith, R-Addison, that she would not support Smith's son Brad's primary effort to succeed his father unless the elder Smith backed Bush's Medicare drug coverage plan last November.

Smith ended up voting against the plan, and his complaint about the pressure led to an ethics probe that found Miller and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, guilty of ethics violations.

"I was surprised but I'm trying to learn a lesson from this," Miller said.
