Kerry ads draw on Saudis for attack on Bushes
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 09:51 PM by JoFerret
(Got to love those plural nouns)

In the final month of the campaign, Democrats are increasingly tying the White House to the Saudi Arabian royal family, a line of attack that they say is highly effective, but it has stirred concern among Saudi officials.

Senator John Kerry and the Democratic Party introduced two new advertisements this weekend that criticize President Bush's administration as giving the family "special favors" and as having an overreliance on Saudi Arabia for oil.

And the Media Fund, a Democratic group, said yesterday that it would spend $6.5 million to run advertisements hitting the Saudi theme still harder in Ohio, Florida and Wisconsin during the next couple of weeks.

....
Mr. Kerry's new advertisements imply that ties between the president and the Saudis have caused Mr. Bush to take a slack line against the Saudis on oil prices - a message Kerry aides say they hope will resonate particularly well in the days before Mr. Kerry's Friday debate on domestic issues with Mr. Bush.

1. This was one of the more powerful parts of F911
I think it can help Kerry's chance of winning, but I wonder how it will affect Kerry's administration (if he should win) when it comes to dealing with the Saudis.

2. Remember those bumperstickers
that said:
"Irritate the Media - Vote Bush!"

Why not a bumper sticker that says:
"Irritate Saudi Arabia - Vote Kerry!"

3. I have a dumb question. Are these ads going to pi** off the Saudis
to the point when Kerry is elected Pres, they would turn off the spigot? I don't like the tight relationship between the Bushies and the Saudis either, but, until the US can establish a real alternate fuel source, could these ads be cutting off our nose to spite our face?

5. SA wants to sell oil its great consumer
It would be more like _they_ were cutting of their noses. They would have to move their oil into other markets which would displace the lesser produces...who would ultimately find markets in the US

It would surely be confused for a while and probably drive oil prices higher but don't you think in the end it would be like the shuffling of seating arrangements?

4. Great
If Bush can tie Kerry to the french, then why not Kerry tie Bush to the saudis?

Seems fair game to me.
