Cheney, Edwards to head to Florida after debate

After their televised debate tonight, Vice President Dick Cheney and Democratic rival Sen. John Edwards were to campaign in Florida.

The day after they debate each other in battleground Ohio, Vice President Dick Cheney and Democratic challenger Sen. John Edwards will continue the contest in Florida, underscoring the state's increasingly critical role in the presidential election.

Cheney will host town hall meetings in Tallahassee and Gainesville on Wednesday before appearing in Miami on Thursday, while Edwards will host a rally Wednesday in West Palm Beach.

The two meet tonight at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland for the only vice presidential debate of the campaign, pitting the sober and serious vice president against the North Carolina senator with the sunny demeanor.

Their Florida visits mark repeat appearances by the two and come as President Bush and Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry pledge a down-to-the wire push in the state that delivered Bush the presidency in 2000 by just 537 votes.
