Bush Backer Competing For State Contract On Voting Machines

A wealthy businessman who's helping the Ohio Republican Party try to win the state in 2004 for President Bush also leads a company competing for a coveted state contract to sell voting machines.

Walden O'Dell is chief executive of Diebold Incorporated in North Canton.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported yesterday that O'Dell told Republicans in an August 14th fund-raising letter that he is committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to Bush. The letter promoted a fund-raiser at his suburban Columbus mansion.

The next day, Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell was set to qualify Diebold as one of three companies eligible to sell upgraded electronic voting machines to Ohio counties in time for the 2004 election. ---

Then I hope that it is hacked by a Dem. This will show them the errors of thier way. No verifyable voting record, no paper trail etc. They can then sit around and scratch their head and wonder why they did not think to play by the rules. A little of thier own medicine. How nice would it be for every Republican that was running for office to lose? Do you think they would cry foul? Would they refuse to investigate it, or stonewall if this happened to the Dems?

after getting away easy in florida in 2000, purging voter rolls mercilessly, one of the first legislative works out of the chute was the Help America Vote Act, a big FU title if there ever was one.

this act funds the purchasing of electronic voting machines.

machines that leave no way to account for who voted for who, and when and where they voted.

helping america vote alright...
