Mrs. Bush to Teresa Heinz Kerry: Don't Wear Blue
BURBANK, Calif. (Reuters) - Appearing once again on the late-night TV circuit, Laura Bush had an important message for Teresa Heinz Kerry, the wife of her husband's political foe -- the first lady will be wearing blue when they next meet.

Recalling the big fashion faux pas of last week's presidential debate, when she and Mrs. Kerry both wore white, Mrs. Bush told Jay Leno during her guest spot on NBC's ``The Tonight Show'' that she and Mrs. Kerry probably have ``a lot in common.''

``We even chose to wear the same color suits (at last Thursday's debate),'' she said. ``So now I just want to announce today that I'll be wearing a blue suit Friday night.''

She added of Sen. John Kerry's spouse: ``I really do feel like we're members of a club. We're the only ones who know how it feels to have a husband running for president in 2004. I'm sure we have a lot to talk about.''

49. That's OLD school....
...the fashionistas call anything that is white after Labor Day "Winter White" and that makes it OK. So you can toss on your white boots, white wool coat, and (faux) white fur hat and not be breaking any fashion laws...or so my fashion-savvy friends tell me.

She really put the pin in the party hog with that one. I wouldn't be surprised to see Teresa wearing blue Friday night.

And there is NO WAY Laura Bush has anything in common with Teresa other than both will have belonged to the First Ladies Club after Nov. 2.

I hope Mrs. Kerry doesn't wear blue. I think she'd look good in pink myself. Also Pickles may just be lying about her planned attire and Theresa would would look like she was taken for a ride; you know showing her independent streak. More fodder for the media. What a lame statement.

50. Actually
...though I think Laura is a little vapid, I think she looks fine. She isn't President, and--showing how desperate our situation is--we would be BETTER OFF as a nation if she was running the show.

She looks a helluva lot better than weewee, and she certainly looks a lot better than she did when she was in TX. She used to wear these tight pinched jackets with the flare at the bottom and pencil skirts. When she got to the WH she started wearing a Hillary Clinton collection of smart pantsuits...if you look at what she wears, it's the same stuff HC wore.

If you look through the long lens of history, at First Lady fashion, you will see that Hillary changed completely the way a First Lady dresses. No one has yet to give Hill credit for this, but it is an undisputable fact. And future First Ladies have her to thank for not having to worry about flashing an unintended view while sitting on a high stage or climbing in or out of Marine 1.

26. "Its all over now Baby Blue" Remember that song by Bob Dylan?
How fitting for Teresa to throw those words of Bobby's back at Laura while tell her to "Shove It"!!

You must leave now, take what you need, you think will last.
But whatever you wish to keep, you better grab it fast.
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun,
Crying like a fire in the sun.
Look out the saints are comin' through
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense.
Take what you have gathered from coincidence.
The empty-handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets.
This sky, too, is folding under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

All your seasick sailors, they are rowing home.
All your reindeer armies, are all going home.
The lover who just walked out your door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor.
The carpet, too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you.
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you.
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore.

Strike another match, go start anew
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

Jays'us how fucking fitting, 'eh?

Leno is such an ass - when Pickled mentioned Bunnypants and his facial expressions during the debate, Leno responded, ``When you don't have botox, you can actually move your face.''

What a tool. I'm glad I stopped watching him after he pimped shamelessly for an idiot as governor of California (who, by the way, looks SERIOUSLY botoxed).

45. It actually WAS funny last time, they were wearing almost the same suit..
They both had on white suits, almost identical, at the last debate. I was laughing because I saw Teresa look at Laura's suit, and chuckle a bit.. then walked over to her and immediately made a reference to the fact they were both wearing the same suit.. and was laughing (in a nice way).

I do wish I was giving campaign fashion advice to Teresa. Instead of the white suit, which really doesn't look great on anyone, she'd be very compelling in a soft knit suit, in colors of black and deep brown. Black skirt, chestnut brown shell, and a soft, but thin knit no-button cardigan over it.. with a great pearl and gold modest, but subtantial necklace... Her hair and skin would absolutely glow.. and she would look accessible, and stylish. Very classy, non-typical political spouse blue/red/white dumpy suit that they all seem to wear. Hillary Clinton sometimes wears yellow suits, etc., which are a step in the right direction. But.. I don't know who tells those poor women in politics to dress like bank employees, but Teresa has such great sytle, she should show it off.

That's a good color for her! Red. I remember that!!
I just wish they'd steer her away from those bulky suits.. that's not how she'd normally dress. Women don't usually wear suits like that.. jacket buttoned up to the neck.. no real adornments. Women wear suits with shirts or tanks under them, with the jacket open. Then a nice scarf or good sized necklace, and interesting shoes. The button up, bulky suits are just awful on women.

47. I think it's funny and I like the way Laura is trying to lighten
things up. She's right--they do have alot more in common that she can PUBLICLY admit. Laura was a Democrat before marrying Bush. I'm sure she bites her tongue alot--in fact I know she does from her interview with Babs Walters.

Laura's alright--lighten up--she's not the one running for president. Good humor is what we need ....

66. Wile she was a Dem. I have zero respect for any woman who sacrifices
her principles for her husband. Lighten up? After what she said about stem cell research? I don't think so .She deserves what she gets. For the record, I don't respect Maria Shriver either!

51. Laura can have "Barbara Bush" blue.
Barbara Bush wore those hideous Walmart Blue sacks on a consistent basis. Laura Bush has the same fashion sense. If Teresa Heinz Kerry wants to wear blue, we can all be assured that it won't be the same color as Mrs. Bush.

:)

This is not Britain when ladies cannot wear the same color that the Queen wears when they are attending an event where she is present.

60. Women often do
wear the same color the Queen does.

The Queen is indifferent to what other women wear.

So are most women today

This is sooooo 50s

82. anyubody who thinks Laura Bush is a sweet, innocent lady
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 07:42 PM by Marianne
is not doing her justice.

She is basically as mean as her MIL, who probably coached her over the years in the intricacies of bitchiness.

Do not forget that Laura has been campaigning for her worthless husband since she married him.

She is like a brown recluse spider and is well aware of nuance and bitchy enough to use it to make her sarcastic point.

She essentially is blaming Teresa for the copycat outfit--when it could have very well been Laura who found out what Teresa was going to wear and decided to pre-empt her. Nancy Reagan did the same thing--I specifically remember a fight between her and Raisa Gorbachov over who was going to wear what and which would outdo the other.

Laura is well aware of what she was implying.

She will probably wear some ugly blue upholstry outfit, complete with gaudy buttons or bows and think she looks like one of her two twenty year old daughters. I hope she does buy a decent bra to lilft the sag at the waist, and puts on the pancake makeup three inches thick.

Teresa is ten years older than the waxed up and stiff Laura and looks far more approachable, warm and human.

85. She committed manslaughter at 17; and her husband is doing
the slaughtering of people all over the middle east, in retribution for 9/11 just to make us all safe for democracy?

She is no sweet librarian to me if she married a cow pie like George.

94. AWOL's body count will far exceed Pol Pot's
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 02:13 AM by Amigust
after you count

1) his wars

2) his refusal to fund the UN Population Fund for three consecutive years

3) his prohibitions against affordable AIDS generics in trade agreements with underdeveloped countries (over 3 million here alone)

4) his abstinence-only, anti-condom war in sex education programs, AIDS service programs, and reproductive health programs

5) his war against stem cell research, thus impeding the development of lifesaving treatments

6) his economic and commerce policies that have thrown more people into poverty and increased the number of uninsured

What will be the final death toll attributable to this monster?

The number of dead will probably abundantly exceed the 3 million entailed in #3 alone.

Pol Pot slaughtered only 1 million.

Pol Pot was direct and crude. Bush is indirect and finessed -- and logarithmically more effective.

Insane. Just insane. Any thread that encourages activism drops like a stone, while this petty crap lives on and on.

Is it any wonder we're neck and neck with the corrupt but VERY well organized and active GOP?

Maybe part of our problem on DU (if we have one)is that we nit pick each other, instead of starting an interesting thread ourselves.
