Michael Moore Just Offered his Movie to Sinclair For Free!!
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 11:16 PM by doxieone
On Leno.

No link.

"Pay per view" broke off contract with him to show 9/11.

Live on Leno Moore offers 9/11 to Sinclair Broadcasting for free for them to truly show how nonpartisian they are!

3. Link that mentions his offer
Also Friday, Moore offered to let Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. air the movie for free. Such a deal would likely get a chilly reception at Sinclair, a broadcaster with a reputation for conservative politics that plans to air a critical documentary about John Kerry's anti-Vietnam War activities on dozens of TV stations two weeks before the election.

4. Leno was halfway decent tonight although he made a..
crack that Moore's underwear could be used for a car top.

Moore countered by saying that his underwear could be put over Leno's head - implying Leno has a big head (which he does in more way than one).

How do you think the stockholders will react when the heads of Sinclair
turn down an offer like this? It's all about the money.

14. OMG I just posted the other day
that if you had to choose between voting for Bush and a dead guy; if you had to choose between voting for Bush and a dead serial killer like Ted Bundy, you choose the serial killer.

Never mind. They're one in the same. I knew they didn't go through with that execution in Florida. No wonder he behaves like a sociopath. Bundy Bush

31. Smith Brothers Control 95% of Votes, Not 95% of Ownership
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 09:30 AM by JPZenger
The four Smith brothers inherited the company from daddy, and then took on over $1 billion of debt to expand it. Their little feifdom is set up in a way that they control 95% of the votes that control the company. They own a much smaller percentage of the market value of the stock. The stockholders who control the majority of the market value of the shares are just along for the ride - they have no control. The 4 Smith brothers make up 4 out of the 8 board members.

The stock has been going down the toilet for the last 6 months - ever since the Nightline censoring episode.

they'll have to show it WITHOUT COMMERCIALS, since that is how they plan to air Stolen Honor. Or else, Moore can offer it to another station, for free, WITH commercials...

What's cool is that he also said he will be pursuing the broken contract with iNDemand...

Has this guy learned how to play, or what??

15. Kerry campaign asking Sinclair for equal time

Updated: 06:23 PM EDT
Kerry Campaign Seeks Equal Time Over Film
By DOUGLASS K. DANIEL, AP

WASHINGTON (Oct. 15) - Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign, contending that Sinclair Broadcast Group wants to help President Bush by airing an anti-Kerry documentary two weeks before the election, asked on Friday that each station carrying the program provide a similar amount of time to Kerry supporters.

Meanwhile, Kerry's Massachusetts colleague, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, asked the Justice Department on Friday to review if broadcasting the documentary amounts to an unlawful campaign contribution warranting a criminal investigation.

The public's interest in a fair and lawful election demand "at least a preliminary determination as to whether the persons involved are vulnerable to criminal charges," Kennedy said in a letter to Deputy Attorney General James B. Comey Jr.

Sinclair has contended that the program is news, covering an issue of interest and importance to viewers, and has invited Kerry to appear on a post-broadcast program. Kerry has declined.

20. It will be interesting how Sinclair explains to the new FCC administration
their 'public' interests in declining Moores offer. The use of the 'commons' for private interests could be the deciding factor in withdrawing Sinclairs permits to use over-the-air electromagnetic bandwidth.

It could shut Sinclair down completely.

That MM is one sharp cookie.

From your post:

"If people really want to see this movie they will rent or buy it or make a copy. Offering it for free make its author sound desperate for attention."

Are you referring to "Stolen Honor"?

35. Sinclair won't show it, exposing its brutish partisan nature
Nobody expects them to say yes, yet if they are to prove their claim of "public interest/news not editorial," the claim that protects them in court, they should! Mike hasn't tricked anybody, he's merely torn aside the veil to show who these hypocrites really are!

Of course F9/11 sells itself--aren't you watching? It's the number 1 video.... EVER!!!!!Mike can afford to be generous. He gets attention because he's worth watching.

33. Can HE actually offer it for free?
I know it's his movie, but I'm sure his distributor, investors, perhaps even Disney owns some of the movie. I don't know that he could actually make it available for free even if he wanted to, without their approval. Since Sinclair will turn them down though, it was a good PR move.

40. CNN has had great coverage of this today- Kerry demanding Equal time
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 11:02 AM by wishlist
I am so glad that Sinclair's pro-Bush agenda has been so loudly exposed all across the country finally. Those of us with Sinclair stations have felt so powerless and voiceless about their campaign of vicious RW anti-Kerry smear attacks that we have had to endure for months now in their constant 'editorials'. Even here on DU, there were unsympathetic posters just recently before this 'Stolen Honor' flap hit who couldn't understand why we were upset saying we could just turn the channel, not understanding that viewers in a lot of areas only get vital local news or a particular major network from their Sinclair affiliated station.

Hope this backfires on Sinclair by exposing their dishonesty and hypocrisy since I highly doubt they will give Kerry equal time since their aim is to force him to expend lots of time and money to counterract their smears.
