Hannaford reverses decision to pull ads (Maine re:Sinclair)
One day after saying they were pulling their ads from Portland TV station WGME to avoid political controversy, officials at the Hannaford supermarket chain reversed their decision Friday for the same reason.

Hannaford on Thursday announced it was pulling its ads from WGME (Channel 13) because of the station's planned airing of a documentary film critical of presidential candidate John Kerry.

Hannaford spokesperson Caren Epstein said Thursday the supermarket chain was "apolitical" and did not want to be associated with the growing controversy over the film.

Isn't it a little too late for them to remain "apolitical"? Isn't making the staement by withdrawing its ads and then reinstating them already saying something???

I was so proud of Hannaford yesterday. Now I wish the only alternative to shopping at Hannford's in my area wasn't the WalMart Supercenter (into which I have never set foot.)

1. Yep, you can't unring a bell. They should stand by their decision.
Supposing they are stuck with WGME as their most profitable advertising resource, couldn't they still publish a formal statement condemning Sinclair's butting into the election?

Sinclair needs real correction, since they have chosen to violate ethical standards Americans used to find important.

5. I am not going to drop another dime in Hannaford
I will go about fifteen miles down the road to another supermarket, or to the small locally owned market that has really everything I need. Who needs a cereal aisle that has at least two hundered different varieties of cereal or a potato chip aisle that has so many varities of chips that it is overwhelming?--same goes for juices and soda, and shampoo, conditioners etc. as well as milk, yogurt, cheese and bread. The smaller store has a butcher that will cut meat to your order and it is better tasting and also, in season, sells local produce whenever it can.

10. mmmmm, Karl Rove?
**********************************
"While no conspiracy theorist, a still-cautious
(John W.) Dean admits to the occasional glance
over his shoulder for any sign of Bush's top
political strategist, Karl Rove. 'Let me put it
this way,' Dean says, carving into a chef's salad
at the hotel restaurant. 'I didn't write all I
know about Karl Rove. One thing I do know is that
he has eyes and ears all over the country. It's
part of an apparatus he's spent a lifetime setting
up. So it's not in total jest when I say I live
in fear of Karl Rove sleeper cells.' " - Los Angeles
Times reporter John M. Glionna, May 9, 2004, "Then
and Now Nixon's Ex-Counsel Blasts Secrecy of Bush
White House," quoting John W. Dean from Dean's new
book entitled "Worse Than Watergate."

Dean was the star Congressional witness in the Watergate
impeachment hearings of Nixon in 1974.
