Bloody Tactics Dismay Fallujah Residents
Bloody Tactics Dismay Fallujah Residents
By SCHEHEREZADE FARAMARZI, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq - People in Fallujah, homegrown insurgents among them, are sounding increasingly dismayed by the beheadings and suicide bombings which some of them blame on foreign fighters.

...

Others speaking in calls arranged by contacts in Fallujah mainly distanced themselves from terrorism and insisted al-Zarqawi isn't there. And on Thursday, a delegation from the city said the Iraqi government's demand to hand over the Jordanian fugitive was an "impossible condition."

...

In the telephone interviews, Fallujah residents said the Americans have overstated the presence of foreign fighters as a pretext for destroying the city. They also asked why no arrested foreigners are ever shown in public.

"I don't believe al-Zarqawi has any presence in Iraq (news - web sites). It's a myth that the Americans have created in order to confuse the situation," said Sheik Ali Ibrahim Faris, head of the Union of Tribes in western Iraq.

...

He drew the line at suicide bombing, however. It "is not our expertise," he said. "We only hit American targets and oil pipelines."

And Abu Abdullah condemned the beheading of hostages, saying: "If we want to kill someone, we put the gun to his head and kill him with mercy. We don't use a knife to cut off his head."

...

"When 13 members of a family are killed in one U.S. attack, who is the terrorist here? Isn't that terrorism?"

4. "Dismayed"?
Try "miserable," "angry," and (dare I use the word?) "terrified"!

Truth in headlines!

5. With the sorry state of the American journalistic force
It seems like Iraq is truly what it is...a vast wilderness half-way around the world. I hear and read these stories and I feel disconnected, cut-off, unable to make sense of a land which I can't rely on anyone for an honest appraisement. Everything that comes from there I study with a jaundiced eye.

The horrors and torment and brutality cannot be conveyed to us here in the States...not with the "reporters" who have the opportunity to do so. And I fear that even if there are a few brave, honest souls who would be forthright, their f*****g employers will see to it that their images and words never cross the seas.

7. Trust details, consistency in history
Abu Nasr:

Death toll in car bombing inside US “green zone”
headquarters stands at 23 US troops killed.

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in Baghdad reported in
a dispatch posted at 11:44pm Friday night Mecca time (
12:44am Saturday morning, local time) that the death toll
of Americans killed in the massive car bombing in the so-
called “green zone” had risen to 23 American soldiers
killed, according to information supplied by persons
working inside the US top security
facility.

The correspondent wrote that the car bombing took the
struggle to a qualitatively new level, in terms of how that
attack was arranged and timed. The Resistance were not
only able to strike inside the top-security “green zone” with a
car bomb but timed the attack to the moment when top
US generals, other prominent military officers, and
intelligence officers were holding a meeting.
